Rosenstein target of impeachment filing being prepared by House conservatives

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is the target of an impeachment effort being undertaken by conservatives in the U.S. House of Representatives, according to a report.

U.S. Reps. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., and Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, both members of the House Freedom Caucus, are said to be leading the effort and could submit an impeachment filing in the next few days, Politico reported Friday.

On Thursday, the New York Times reported that the White House ordered that more members of Congress receive access to classified information about an FBI informant linked to the Russia probe, despite objections from U.S. intelligence and law enforcement officials.

ICE agents arrest 18 human smugglers, 117 illegal immigrants in Texas, New Mexico



U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested 18 human smugglers and 117 illegal immigrants from three different stash houses located in southern New Mexico and El Paso, Texas, last month, the agency announced in an online statement Friday.

ICE worked alongside agents with the U.S. Border Patrol to make the arrests, seizing cash, cars and drugs during the massive sting operation. "The seizures included nine vehicles, three tractor-trailers and $20,000 in U.S and Mexican currency."

U.S. citizens Elias Serrano, 42, and Jesus Briseno, 25, were among those arrested for smuggling, according to ICE. Both men have extensive criminal records.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to vigorously pursue members of transnational criminal networks that exploit and endanger people they smuggle into our country,” Jack P. Staton, special agent in charge of ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) in El Paso, said in a statement. “These smugglers are driven by human greed and heartlessness. HSI will continue to work with our law enforcement partners, such as Border Patrol, to maintain the integrity of our border and nation’s immigration laws.”

Donald Trump’s claim that Theresa May’s Brexit vision might scupper a US trade deal were made because he had not “fully understood” her plans, Britain’s trade secretary has said.

Liam Fox said that after the president publicly questioned the prime minister’s proposals in an interview, he had taken some time to help US officials get their heads round exactly what Ms May’s proposals meant.

The cabinet minister’s intervention came ahead of a press conference in which Mr Trump then appeared to do a 180 degree about turn in his view of Ms May’s plans, saying instead that they are “OK with us”.

Asked on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme if he had subsequently explained the proposals to the president, Dr Fox said: “We’ve been discussing with American officials exactly what the agreement that we came to in Chequers meant.

“And I think there were some who perhaps had not fully understood the freedoms that the United Kingdom will have, for example they were talking about agricultural goods and they were saying, ‘would we have the ability to make concessions on agricultural goods if we wanted a trade agreement?’.

“And of course the truth is that we have complete freedom over tariffs, we have complete freedom over quotas, and although it’s true that we won’t be able to make changes in regulation in areas covered by the common rulebook on agriculture – that’s on agricultural standards – we have made very clear we have no intentions of reducing the standards that we give to our consumers in the UK.”
