Can we hear a GOP apology for that? Yeah, I thought not.

None of those people used or promoted organized hate, or violence. The Left is the violent side. Ask Maxine.

The difference with Trump is that you didn't hear Obama, Bush II, or Clinton engaging in this sort of trash-talking themselves and so I do think he deserves some criticism on that score.

I agree with that, and find Trump's behavior in this areas very regrettable. At the same time I recognize that these past presidents deceived the people, in much more measured and civil terms, to be sure, than has Trump. The legacy of these deceptions is a set of major challenges we face today. Trump has begun to address some of them, and so far more effectively than I thought possible. It will take some time to get an historical judgment on the net effect.

Flashback: GOP Staffer Hounded into Resignation for Critiquing Obama Daughters' Outfits, Body Language

When is Maxine going to resign? She would be free to run for president.
Quote:
A day later, under intense pressure, Lauten resigned. Lauten should not have spouted off the way she did, and when you represent a member of Congress, your words can have consequences. There's no sense in scraping off this old scab and relitigating whether a forced resignation was a proportionate punishment for the civility infraction. She was a communications staffer, she communicated badly, and she embarrassed her boss. A string of no-no's. But I still maintain that the degree of media attention lavished upon this dust-up was comically disproportionate. Recall these details:

What was Ivanka called and who resigned?

@firefly,
This is sickening.

To suggest that Sanders is lacking in "rudimentary human decency" is the height of tribal arrogance.

Shame on you!

So...In other words because the other side has engaged in despicable acts it's A-OK for your side to do the same?

Sort of makes any future outrage from you entirely bullshit

...but your current outrage is entirely justified, despite your sides past, where you (General you, for right-leaning people) were silent.

Like most of these things, I think people are outraged by the hypocrisy, not by the words.

Waters comments were horrible and have been denounced by Democratic leadership and others, as it should be.

Now, maybe you can explain why it’s worse than all of Trumps violent speech. You know, how he’ll pay their legal bills, how the 2nd Amendment supporters may “fix” the Hillary problem, etc.

@maporsche,
I'm glad you qualified your use of "you"

It doesn't matter how it stacks up to anything Trump has said.

If you are sitting back and saying "Well, it's not so bad considering what Trump has said," you are part of the problem

I qualified the "you" only because I don't recall your exact words on any previous related subject, but I do recall the general "outrage". You may be included in that, I just didn't want to be forced to find a quote or something.

I don't know why you said "if" or maybe you were using the "general you" as well.

I stated, clearly as I could. "Waters comments were horrible and have been denounced by Democratic leadership and others, as it should be."

Still enjoying the faux-outrage though from the right.

But know we have entered an age where people find it acceptable to encourage violent behavior.

I'm curious as to your opinion on why you think we are in this age. How did we get here, in your opinion (don't need cited facts or anything)?

From the campaign? What has happened besides one punch? Stop whining and own what the Left is doing. A congressman was shot.

Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) had the unmitigated gall to suggest this morning that Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch had been bribed to vote in support of President Trump’s travel ban, which stops unvetted refugees from countries that are hotbeds of terrorism from coming into the U.S. The Supreme Court handed down a 5-4 decision upholding President Trump’s “travel ban” as constitutional. Ellison stated that Gorsuch had “done what his paymasters sent him there to do,” Ellison told CNN. He was furious, calling the decision discriminatory and racist as usual.

What kind of crap is that? This is a Supreme court justice. Ellison apparently knows nothing about the Constitution, or civility, but why should he? None of that matters to Democrats.

The Mainstream Media is Directly to Blame for Our Current State of Political Discourse

And whose side are they on, Trumps?
Quote:
That is the level of frenzy with which the legacy media has reported every development of this administration; and while the talking heads at CNN know damn well that they’re playing games for clicks and ratings, the rest of their viewer base is left feeling panicked and helpless, sincerely believing that at any moment the Brown Shirts are going to march into their homes and places of work and haul off every woman, minority and gay person. SOMEONE HAS TO DO SOMETHING.

Suddenly nearly half the population has a moral obligation to civil disobedience. Instead of simply engaging politically and gearing up for the next elections (which happen every 2-4 years, rain or shine), now average people have an imperative to cause trouble, to scream and shout and physically obstruct anyone who is associated with the President in any way, even if they’re just a neighbor who voted for him.
