There is high-quality journalism. It died the day Obama was elected. And they want votes like any other political party.

You had no problem with journalism during the George Bush administration? I doubt that.

Speculation about his future? How does that not apply to everyone in this administration?

@hightor,
Justice John Paul Stevens wrote:
When organizations like the National Rifle Association disagreed with that position and began their campaign claiming that federal regulation of firearms curtailed Second Amendment rights, Chief Justice Burger publicly characterized the N.R.A. as perpetrating “one of the greatest pieces of fraud, I repeat the word fraud, on the American public by special interest groups that I have ever seen in my lifetime.”

A good reason to vote for Republicans is: liberals hate freedom and civil rights, and the Republicans will prevent liberals from violating our rights.

If you view their website in "incognito/private browsing" mode, you can visit their website hundreds of times a month. Because no logs are kept, each time you visit it thinks that it's the first time you've been there.

I also have uBlock Origin installed on my browser. So I don't see any of these companies' pesky ads either.

And when I watched the Olympics each day, I usually watched with a bit of delay, and I skipped right over a whole bunch of commercials.

Those little 10 second commercials got me though. Skipping ahead shoots way over the commercial. And by the time you take the time to reverse back to the end of the commercial, you might as well have just let the commercial play for 10 seconds.

You would think there would be praise for using a company as your bitch. Especially since the internet giants are selling our information and theirs. Pretty much of a win win for them at our expense. Of course that does not make it right. I forgive you.

@coldjoint,
They don't get much data from me. I have the Privacy Badger addon from the Electronic Frontier Foundation:

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Privacy_Badger

And I have the Decentraleyes addon that mirrors CDN data on my hard drive. Whenever a website requires some kind of CDN data, the request gets redirected to my hard drive instead of going out to the CDN provider, which both speeds up my internet browsing and protects my privacy at the same time:

FBI looked into Trump plans to build hotel in Latvia with Putin supporter
Quote:
They wanted to build the Las Vegas of the Baltics.

In 2010, a small group of businessmen including a wealthy Russian supporter of Vladimir Putin began working on plans to build a glitzy hotel and entertainment complex with Donald Trump in Riga, the capital of Latvia.

A senior Trump executive visited the city to scout for locations. Trump and his daughter Ivanka spent hours at Trump Tower with the Russian, Igor Krutoy, who also knows attendees of a fateful meeting at the same building during the 2016 US election campaign.

Then the Latvian government’s anti-corruption bureau began asking questions.

The Guardian has learned that talks with Trump’s company were abandoned after Krutoy and another of the businessmen were questioned by Latvian authorities as part of a major criminal inquiry there – and that the FBI later looked into Trump’s interactions with them at Latvia’s request.

Those involved deny that the inquiry was to blame for the deal’s collapse.

Latvia asked the US for assistance in 2014 and received a response from the FBI the following year, according to a source familiar with the process. Latvian investigators also examined secret recordings in which Trump was mentioned by a suspect.

This means the FBI looked into Trump’s efforts to do business deals in the former Soviet Union earlier than was widely known. Robert Mueller, the special counsel, is now investigating other Trump dealings with Russians as part of his wide-ranging criminal inquiry into alleged collusion between Moscow and members of Trump’s 2016 campaign team.

There's more to it.

Shulkin oversaw the implementation of a contracted-care health care system, aimed at improving service for veterans by privatizing part of the VA’s health care network, which is made up of more than 1,000 facilities nationwide. Shulkin quickly found himself in the middle of an ideological battle over the scope of the VA’s assistance to veterans and, in terms of health care, the department’s second largest expenditure, the existential question of how much of that care should be provided by the VA itself and how much should be privatized and paid for by the department.

These bumps in the road were exacerbated by a mutiny at the department among conservative Trump appointees who launched an orchestrated effort to dethrone Shulkin.

Slate

Shulkin may have been able to survive the ethics issues raised by the Europe trip but the background to the story is the intention of conservatives to privatize veterans' health care.

This tale of how to make millions for yourself by sucking money out of the gullible is one of the most common tales duplicated again and again in the world of the American right wing. But the case reported on here is really a dilly and it involves Trump's new lead counsel. Must read.

Sekulow has a huge following on the religious right and is the one who brought Ekonomou onto the President’s team. Sekulow is also a master fundraiser. Indeed, he and his family have made many millions of dollars Over the years through various ‘religious liberty’ charities they control.

And if you haven't read historian Rick Perlstein's The Long Con you should.

Considerably off topic but what the hell. Very interesting archaeological find here in BC. When I did archaeology studies on settlement of the New World, the reigning hypothesis was that humans moved via overland routes. That anyone still thinks this surprises me because movement along coastal routes (much of it by boat) is a much better thesis.

@blatham,
archeologists, bless em, seemed always to be only evidence bound.(Not that theres anything wrong with that), but theyve always discounted sea route "coasting" especially when geological evidence proved that during the 4 Pleistocene and early Holocene glacial events created a huge beachfront several tens of miles wide (and hundreds of miles wide in UK's "doggerland" ). crab draggers were always bringing up artifacts from out at sea along the Channel Islands, yet the predominant hypothesis was a "land bridge" and then wait around for a few thousand years until "Ice out" then make it through the ice free passes.

Never a satisfying story for a bunch of clever little fucks like the
Paleo - Amerinds.

Why not both?
