Al Gore's 'An Inconvenient Sequel' bombs at the box office

Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power” failed to resonate with many viewers.

The movie, which focuses on climate change, earned about $1 million. "An Inconvenient Truth" made nearly $50 million at the box office.

Earlier this year, the anti-Hillary Clinton documentary, "Hillary's America: The Secret History of the Democratic Party," by Dinesh D'Souza, raked in more than $13 million at the box office, according to Box Office Mojo. It was initially only released in three theaters.

Despite the "Inconvenient Sequel" setback, Gore has more plans for his follow up flick.

Plans for more, eh? He's like The Thing that Wouldn't Die.

What we're talking here is patriotism, Breitbart style.

Digby sents off a little note to Mike Pence
Quote:
He will never forget this. Never. No matter who obsequious, no matter how low you grovel, it will always be in his head that you are conniving behind his back.

Because you are. He knows it, you know it, we all know it:

Greg Sargent brings up a possibility that we've all entertained in our darker moments. What will happen if:
1) the Mueller investigation (or another) finds evidence of real crimes by Trump and/or his team
2) Trump continues his current behavior of denying everything AND telling his loyal base that this is all fake, that he's innocent of anything nefarious, that his enemies in the media and in government are effectively staging a coup, and that his supporters should get so mad that they ought to do something about this to protect America.

Is Trump that insane? On the evidence of his behavior so far, probably he is.

Cosmopolitanism notes from all over.
Quote:
White House senior adviser Stephen Miller famously used the adjective “cosmopolitan” to insult CNN’s Jim Acosta during an exchange in the White House briefing room last week, implying that the journalist somehow bore an air of swampy elitism.

But wait, what’s that expression about people in glass houses?

It turns out that Miller calls home a nearly $1 million condo in CityCenter, one of Washington’s poshest addresses and a complex that proudly offers residents an upscale, urbane lifestyle. With high-end international retailers such as Hermès and Gucci on the street level alongside fancy Italian, Asian and French eateries, the building is billed as “the new ideal for sophisticated, modern, urban living.” Also in the marketing materials is the slogan: “You are where you live.”

Which would make Miller … well, pretty cosmopolitan, in a city that is arguably among the most cosmopolitan in the world.

I haven't mentioned this before (not sure if anyone else has) but Netanyahu appears to be in some serious trouble.
Quote:
...A day earlier, police confirmed that Netanyahu is suspected of bribery, fraud and breach of trust in two cases – one involving allegations that the prime minister and his family received gifts from wealthy benefactors and another involving allegations that he tried to cut a deal that would have provided him with favorable coverage in one of Israel’s largest newspapers.

This one's destined to end up in the Supreme Court, and I've got a wild-ass guess about how they'll rule:

Quote:
Sessions: Sanctuary city Chicago's hostility to law-enforcement protection 'astounding'

Attorney General Jeff Sessions fired back Monday at the lawsuit filed by the city of Chicago over the Justice Department’s threat to withhold federal money from so-called sanctuary cities, saying “no amount” of money will help a city that won’t help its own residents."

“This administration will not simply give away grant dollars to city governments that proudly violate the rule of law and protect criminal aliens at the expense of public safety,” Sessions concluded. “So it’s this simple: Comply with the law or forego taxpayer dollars.”

"To a degree perhaps unsurpassed by any other jurisdiction, the political leadership of Chicago has chosen deliberately and intentionally to adopt a policy that obstructs this country’s lawful immigration system,” Sessions said in a statement.

The attorney general called the “open hostility” against protecting law enforcement -- while protecting criminal aliens -- “astounding” given the influx of Chicago’s violence crime.

"Chicago will not be blackmailed into changing our values, and we are and will remain a welcoming city,” Emanuel said.

Emanuel, heh. Now there's a cheese-chompin sumbitch if there ever was one, eh?

Good luck in the Supreme Court, Rahmmy-boy.

What is it with these guys. Sharon was close to indictments and (if I recall correctly) his son did go to jail. Then Olmert.

Well, Finn, ya know, "cosmopolitan" is pretty damn close to being the filthiest word imaginable, eh?

@Finn dAbuzz,
Quote:
Acosta: This whole notion, they have to learn English before they get to the United States—are we just going to bring in people from Great Britain and Australia?

Miller: Jim, actually, I have to honestly say: I am shocked at your statement, that you think only people from Great Britain and Australia would know English. It reveals your cosmopolitan bias to a shocking degree, that in your mind—this is an amazing moment—that you think only people from Great Britain and Australia would speak English is so insulting to millions of hard-working immigrants from all over the world.
Miller here was redirecting the conversation from the obvious and inevitable racial consequences of the proposed policy through attacking the questioner, suggesting he (Acosta) was the real racist.

What do you take to be the meaning of "cosmopolitan" or "cosmopolitan bias" as Miller uses it? Does it mean something like "less American" or "anti patriotic" or "false loyalty" or what? It's clearly a derogation.

@blatham,
The context is he loves Nixon. Who doesn't? So he's assuming his Nixonian pose. The "V" for victory was one of Tricky Dick's favorites, ya know?

Nixon was a true patriot who rooted out that commie-ass Alger Hiss and his homeys with the pumpkin papers. Filthy commies. Nixon's a hero.
