Invites
It would be nice if Mapleleaf would invite the folks from the Dear Diary threads at abuzz - good folks there.
Dear Diary?
Where would you post that here anyway?
Probably General or Original Writing.
Hi all. I'm very new here, arrived this a.m. and just reading as fast as I can. So this is where everybody went!!!
This looks like a great alternative to abuzz, which is just as people say, slow, full of mean people and getting boring with few interesting threads. Hope it's OK I showed up, Diane invited me. Kudos to Craven and Jespah and all the others who've put it together. Kudos and thanks.
I've been thinking about that Phoenix. Maybe there are none of the completely outrageous propositions that you just have to comment on, even when you know you shouldn't.
A lot of you folks here (myself not included) were very active on Abuzz and your absence is being noticed. I received an invitation to Temper's roll call thread today, asking everyone to check in.
I responded to Temper's thread and said I probably would not be around Abuzz much. It was hard to not say where I was and why I will not longer Abuzz.
Does anyone know how long it will be or if we ever can use the invites on this site. I have invited two people via regular e-mail but got CDKs ok first. And another Abuzz friend who is part of the up keep and such here says we are not supposed to invite. But it is difficult - here we are having a great time and some of our good friends are still struggling with Abuzz.com.
Two Abuzzers that would fit in well here are Ridinghood and Stoat.
Welcome, Piffka. I like your having adopted that nickname!
What we don't want is to overwhelm the site, all at once. We want to make sure that everything is in place before the deluge. The Editors are beginning to send out invitations, in a controlled and orderly fashion.
I have a feeling, that very soon, this site is going to "boom". I think that Craven and Jespah are very wise in handling the invitations this way.
As you may know, this site will be monitored very closely by the Editors and Moderators. One thing that we DON'T want, is the sort of nastiness that really ruined Abuzz. By controlling the influx, the Editors will have the opportunity to become more comfortable with their duties, so that the site is run efficiently.
So hang on, and be patient. In a short while, you will see many more of your old buddies on this site!
I think it's not only comfort level, but whether the actual nuts and bolts of the site are ready for an influx -- things like an active support link, help pages, etc. I'm pretty sure that we are still officially in Beta.
If you want to invite anyone, please let me know, as I am keeping track so that no one gets duplicates. Just because you don't see someone doesn't mean they didn't get an invite. Please send me a PM rather than just responding on this thread because it will be easier for me to keep track of everything that way.
As for the "Where is everybody?" thread, I've seen a few of them lately. I'm sure plenty of people are absent from Abuzz due to the lack of email updates (only recently fixed), outages, nuts, and perhaps just being busy with other things. "Where is everybody?" threads are an old tradition - I've seen them for over a year and a half on Abuzz, at various times, asked by various people.
Has anyone invited Temper?
Or for that matter DakotaStone...
I've also been thinking about jef2k/aiden/GAY, princess ash and neohihp...
Patience, laddie!
By New Years' we can have one hell of a blowout, and we will be able to sing, "Hail, Hail, the gang's all here!
SealPoet, from something temper said on that thread, I think she knows where people are.
GoAway was back on Abuzz today! What a relief - I was worried about her.
I checked out and belonged to Raven's Realm but never really got into it, never really understood navigating it, never in the right mood, whatever.
I have had the usual abuzz addiction..I love talking to people from all over, and so many people are so interesting and I learn and learn and talk and talk myself. So I have had great forbearance for abuzz.
But the failure to exclude the Imposter brigade and some vicious bits have killed the site, in my view. Reasoned discourse is still going on, in fact there is one thread, by Farmerman on Creation theory in Ohio schools that stuns me with post after well written post..but this sort of literacy, where opinions on more than one or two sides are well articulated, is harder and harder to find.
I am still on Abuzz, but it is hard to recommend it to any friend, they would think I was...bananas. Look at the new interactions..oh, but you have.
