Hi, all. As a newbie, I just wanted to say 'hello.' Great site, Craven, but it's going to take this computer semi-literate quite a while to get the hang of navigating it. And thank you, Lightwizard and dlowen, for alerting me to the site's existence. I don't plan to abandon Abuzz. Far from it. I fear, though, that it is abandoning us hard-liners. The trolls are something else right now, but we've survived similar assaults ere this. Your comments, Craven, on how Abuzz is not even trying are quite cogent.

Stay in touch. I plan to.

Sozobe--

I understand the way you feel. For a year and a half Abuzz was a delightful place where I could learn from and chit-chat with witty and intelligent people.

Last spring, Civilized Abuzz started to fray at the edges and now the original fabric is raveled and soiled.

The trolls are off-putting enough. I'm also saddened by the low level of political discourse. Both liberals and conservatives have been maligned by shallow minds with access to keyboards. There are fewer and fewer questions from people seeking knowledge and more and more scurrilous and hostile manifestos.

Often when I scroll down the list of "New Interactions" I feel soiled.

Even more unfortunate is the way that Temper and other popular Abuzzers have been hounded by the trolls with no interference.

The content of Abuzz has decayed to the point that I don't have any enthusiasm for putting up with the black outs and the long delays in loading.

None of us have unlimited recreational time and we can't be blamed for wanting to use that time to enjoy ourselves and the world.

Camelot. Does anyone else see parallels with a golden age of chivalry overwhelmed by barbarians? Remember the musical, "Camelot"? After devoting a half an hour to finding out that congenial threads were not a Special of The Day, I'd log off humming "Where were the simple joys of miscella-ne-ous?"

I'm very happy to have found another playground.

P.S.

Another old song: "Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets".

Take your name change with my blessing-- and leave my man and my pocketbook and my bookshelves alone.

"Lola" has presence.

And we are so glad you found us, Noddy.

All you say is true, and the speed. Like, you start to look into a discussion, go out to lunch, and when you get back, why there it is - maybe.

Madonna didn't choose the name "Lola" for her heir for nothin'.

Noddy, indeed, LOVE the avatar. Take no prisoners. And hold that dominion.

I know just what you mean by "soiled". That's when I wrote this, after hunting and hunting (and HUNTING) for one measly little thread to feature on the Hotline, and instead finding... well, yuck.

Roger--

Thanks for the welcome. So many of my favorite Abuzz people seem to be congregating here.

Sozobe, Jespah--

The atavars are fun. I love my new figure (with shoes for my tender bones) and my potent popgun. Self-expression is very ego-boosting.

Hi, Noddy -- you only have one skeleton in your closet? Or is the skelton just recently emerged from a closet? Or just too much dieting? Anyway, if I haven't said it, glad you're here.

Well, thanks y'all for the praise of my avatar. I do love this function. Very fun. And it's good to see everyone congregating here. I have been worried lately that we'll have no place to go when Abuzz collapses into a heap of dust. What are the rules about inviting others? I have some philosophy, science friends on Abuzz I'd like to invite. Folks I think would contribute to the community. I wouldn't do it by posting it on a thread. But I could send them a private invitation. What are the rules around here?

Do you remember the song by The kinks?

L-O-L-A Lola..."

I'm so happy to see so many of the great Abuzz folks here, so many of the "good guys". I still scroll the new interactions on my time-outs from work, but it's not the same. I joined Raven's Realm months ago. never participated, logged on yesterday, was sent here and ... WOW!!! This is the greatest!

Lola, I'm trying to go slowly vis a vis invitations, because I don't want us to grow too quickly. I'd also advise not advertising on Abuzz (Abuzz doesn't really like that kind of advertising, and I can't say as I blame them). Also, a bunch of people have been invited (they're trickling in) and I don't want people to get too many duplicate invites.

So, can you send me a note in, let's say, a week? A Private Message or an email (you have my addy) is fine, so I can be sure we're not duplicating our efforts. That work for you?
