Here again is a grammatically tricky sentence:
Quote:
Packing materials also appear near the ear canals and in the sinus cavities and plugs close the nostrils.

It's about King Tut's mummy. Which I don't quite understand is the use of "plugs" here. Is its subject "packing materials"?

Hi JB.

It's a compound sentence. It could be re-written as two sentences:

Packing materials also appear near the ear canals and in the sinus cavities. Plugs close the nostrils.

Does that help to make it clear?

Pygmies do things that most humans forgot a long time ago. Like drive cat-size antelope into nets. Or live in adult accorde with pain and sudden death.

So what is "adult accord with pain and sudden death"? I can neither figure out the structure nor the meaning.

And also, it is really great to finish the work earlier in the IT class! Very Happy

"Adult accord with pain and sudden death" could mean "having a mature acceptance of the nature of the universe".

Bugti and other nationalists accuse the government of doing little to develop the province, and say Islamabad has refused to renegotiate the energy loyalty rate, which has been unchanged since it was first set in 1952.

It is quoted from an articule with regards to the tension between Pervez Musharraf's army and the rebellion in Baluchistan from the lates Newsweek magazine.

So what is a "energy lowaylty rate"? It is clear that I has nothing to do with something such a royal family, isn't it?

"What's happened here is unprecedented. Sadda, Hussein is on trial, they've gotten sovereignty, they've passed through three elections, written a constitution and had a referendum on the constitution and, with our assistance, biult the security forces,"he says."But we've got a ways to go"

Might be a misprint. Energy royalty rate would refer to an economic factor

If you started to walk the length of the Great Wall Of China; at the half way point you'd have "a ways to go"

Ahhh, now I understand your confusion. Royalty in this case has nothing to do with a throne. It is the rate set for each watt of power or barrell of oil. Or if you wrote a book...what the publisher would pay you for each book it sold...or if you recorded a big hit...you might recieve a royalty rate of $1.00 for every CD the record company sold.

Oh you congratulates embarrass me more than please me. I was quite guilty that in thus "a year and a half" I actually didn't do quite well in the updating and this thread due to lack of time and sometimes even lack of patience.
I'd like to better.

And about Cavfancier, where is our fellow friend exactly? Confused

"Take the edges off" ?

Edgy has become a popular adjective for groundbreaking books , music and movies.. When you take the edges off something you smooth it out and make it more acceptable
