Generally speaking NGO is the acronym to "non-governmental organizations".

Not only in environment but in finding solutions to help people in any field.

equipped room? Does it mean that the room has many functions?

play a band? play an active role?

Not exactly : this means the room's equipment is fitted (on special purpose) for the diseases the Pope is suffering.

Just HAD to mention I word I learned recently that practically no English speaker knows: "purfle."

I was looking up something else in the dictionary and came across it. It means "to ornament the border or edges of," as in, "That dress could really use a little purfling," or "That curtain is overly purfled." Presumably one's hair could be purfled as well.

And here I thought I knew EVERY word having to do with the decoration of fabric (and I'm a native speaker!) English must be the most difficult language ever.

Only learned a wee bit of French in high school, and a wee bit of Russian in college, all of which I've completely forgotten in the interim.

I don't think either of them has nearly as MANY words as English, the borrower of all borrowers...

It's hard to say a language is more difficult than another.

in addition, one can not say, because of the number of words in a language, that it's more difficult.

A simple googling tell that English and French have roughly the same number of words :

How many words in english?
How many words in french?

Shirley you must be joking! You are virtually the only person I have ever heard espousing the view that English is an easy language to learn.

In my opinion, English is one of the most difficult, not to mention inefficient, languages in the world. Good luck finding people who agree with you on this one.

Not trying to find people who agrees with me. It seems you seldom talk to foreigners. If so, you would find some saying english is not that difficult (to a certain extend).

Corrections:
1- "agree with me," not "agrees with me"
2- "English," not "english"
3- "a certain extent," not "a certain extend"

I believe I understand now why you think English is "easy." Sheesh.

Francis, I think you're just looking for an argument. I was just posting the entertaining (to me) word, "purfle."

You know what, Francis? I really don't like you.
