So when your first statement about military members not talking about their sons is shattered, you then chalk it down to 'bleeding heart liberals'.
That's real intellectual. A 'bastion' of scientific, rational thinking that solves your first statements dilemma. People are not so typically camped as you make them to be. The media, our favourite friend, presents this, but most people are not so polarized in their behaviour. Only on TV and only because they view the media uncritically.
They see a group of people burning flags and now, all liberals want flags burned. Or they assume that their polling of the people they know is as accurate as a properly conducted scientific poll..
Now my unofficial poll: I have deeply conservative friends who run the gamut of beliefs. From traditional, stereotyped conservative values to liberal values that we laugh about because we know we don't fit into a Media frame..
Its ok to have dissonance. Its ok that things aren't black and white. Don't worry about having to have more people 'on your side' so that if you don't, then you spout things like 'oh, if that's not the case, they MUST be all <fill in the stereotyped blank>
