I think he tried out for the Washington Senators, only he missed out by a few decades, because they'd moved to Texas. He was trying to impress an actress, I think. His timing was never that great...

The Washington Senators used to have quite a few Cuban players--and Red Scheondienst (sp?) therefore has the dubious distinction of being the only major league player ever to hit into an all-Cuban double play combo . . .
