It's a darn shame that his parents didn't practice abstinence

Bill, I'd only disagree slightly in that, rather than American organizations, I think it will likely be American corporations...

I used "organizations" because I not only include corporations but "faith based charities" and other right wing entities Smile

I've given up on trying to figure out Powell. He doesn't even sound like a loyal soldier obeying orders. And I notice in a lot of the African newspaper accounts of the 5-day wonder whirl undertaken by Bush, Powell gets about as much respect as Bush..

I've taken to watching the fleeting photo moments of this trip. In South Africa, Bush comes off the plane, followed by Laura. Over walks the honcho of South Africa. Laura smiles, stretches out her hand, he walks right by her and shakes Bush's hand.

What is striking about the last little while is the absolute loss of respect for the office Bush holds. Mandela refusing to even be in the same country; the papers giving space to the questions about Iraq and short shrift to any purpose of Bush's trip except the political one, which they all mentioned; and nobody saying what a great and important trip this was. What I wonder is if Bush is aware of this.

Unfortunately, only a minority of us Americans understand what's going on, and the rest of America are proud of their president on a "humanitarian" trip. c.i.

I think Powell is just one more American who wants a well-paid ride to the top. Is there -- has there been -- anything we know about him which exempts him from naked ambition and greed?

Today they have changed the word 'false' to 'dubious':

False:

1 Contrary to fact or truth: false tales of bravery.
2 Deliberately untrue: delivered false testimony under oath.
3 Arising from mistaken ideas: false hopes of writing a successful novel.
4 Intentionally deceptive: a suitcase with a false bottom; false promises.
5 Not keeping faith; treacherous: a false friend. See Synonyms at faithless.
6 Not genuine or real: false teeth; false documents.

Dubious:

1 Fraught with uncertainty or doubt; undecided.
2 Arousing doubt; doubtful: a dubious distinction.
3 Of questionable character: dubious profits.

That's a big change in my book. Must've gotten a call from Rove.

Any one watching the morning talking heads? Lots of awakening appearing to be going on...

Even since you posted that, PDiddie, the blame has been shifted away from Bush to:

"FUROR OVER CIA ROLE IN WMD CLAIM"

Let's see if the C.I.A. lays down for the blame.

Seems to me that's a dangerous and stupid fight to pick.

Of course, that would be keeping with all trends...

Certainly there has been a trend (and an expected one) to push the blame further down the administration food chain. But in this case we know that Bush knew he lied in his SOTU address. And "the buck stops here" should and would be applied ultimately.

The problem is the media. I think one should write letters to editors (Chronicle?) pointing out the sequence of CBS headlines and making like the Chronicle (or whichever) would surely be more responsible. Pit the damn media against each other.

The Howard Dean website is facilitating a petition to demand the truth:

"In light of late-breaking events, I thought it was important that I write to you today.

"It is now clear that there are those in this administration who misled the nation and misled the world in making the case for pre-emptive war.

"They know who they are. And they should resign today.

"Please join me in demanding that those responsible for misleading the American people resign by clicking on the link below:

http://www.deanforamerica.com/truth

"In his State of the Union address, President Bush claimed that Iraq had attempted to purchase uranium in Africa for the production of nuclear weapons. We know now that the documents he relied upon to make that claim were forged.

"Yesterday, in testimony before the Senate, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld made the stunning announcement that it was only "within recent days" (since the press had begun reporting it) that he learned about the forgery. Yet Secretary of State Colin Powell, in February, had enough reservations about the validity of the documents that he did not cite them in his presentation to the UN.

"The American people must know the truth. ..."

Where is accountability, responsibility, leadership - hidden in the closet, that's where!

What about Donald Rumps secret CIA, what about the State Department reports to unVP Cheney (and his lies that he knows nothing), why does the buck stop over there?

I think it's up to us to hound the media to stop the buck where it belongs. Letters, calls, whatever. Important to create a ground swell.

What about the scores of Generals and diplomats - current and retired - whom were adamently against the war in the guise of the way it was proposed and prosecuted? This includes the unPres father and church!
