John Webb
I would let him take his family. We would be well rid of them.
They could move in next to Sadamm and family. That would be the ultimate irony
Tartarin, perhaps part of his future strategy will be to make sure his next 'invasion' takes place during the election campaign, when the majority of voters will support him to avoid being seen as 'unpatriotic'?
Iran, here we come?
I just want to add to this excellent thread one comment. Let's kick George Bush's ass out of the White House in 2004! Just cheerleading. Rah Rah
And I agree with John Webb (nice to meet you JW) that the Democrats should be fully prepared for unfair, dirty maneuvers on the part of the Republicans who will stop at nothing to impose their way on everyone else in the world.
P.S. JW, I love your avatar and the tail is just charming!
John, re your comments, do check out Paul Krugman's op-ed piece in today's NYTimes:
http://www.nytimes.com/2003/03/18/opinion/18KRUG.html
Tartarin, read Paul Krugman's article with great interest. Nice to know that others in positions of greater influence are not being fooled by Regime rhetoric. Many thanks for highlighting it.
By the way Saddam has just responded to Bush by demanding that he take his family and leave America.
Never figured I would ever agree with Saddam.
P.S. Lola, thanks for liking my tail. I like your legs.
A few small predictions about Iraq covering the next week or two:
Realistically, the toughest opposition faced by forces on the ground will be the weather.
After probably the fastest invasion in history (although they may go slow to prevent it looking too easy), during which no W.M.D.s will be used against American forces, the next steps should include the seizing of the oil fields and the highly-publicized 'discovery' by Government agricultural experts of a few of Saddam's hidden W.M.D.s or even 'suspicious' barrels to provide the public and media with justification for the war.
Followed by big celebrations in the headquarters of the Republican Party and various oil companies.
You are such a cynic, John. I join you in your prediction! See quote, below.
"I think our worldview that I'm trying to articulate is compassionate conservatism. When you believe in the sanctity of life, you believe that people are created in God's image, you are compassionate to them because they are made by God, not by nature or some other--they are made by God. So you look at them in a compassionate way. That is George W. Bush."
--Tom DeLay
But Tom, didn't God create the Iraqi people, too?
Or were they "made by nature or some other?"
Why is George W. Bush going to kill so many of God's people?
And why would you use a war to show how compassionate the aggressor is?
Yeah, Tom, answer PDiddle's questions.
The war may last longer than I originally thought. Sources suggest the Bush agenda includes using-up as many old and out-dated bombs and rockets as possible against a virtually defenceless enemy before the war ends, so that he can replace them with billions of dollars worth of new ones ordered from Republican Party financial backers at taxpayers' expense.
In the meantime, the danger from Iraq remains almost zero. If he expected American casualties, Bush would never allow the media to join the troops at the front line.
Altogether, nothing more than modern-day claim jumping.
I think this dictator has been recognized, John (yr. quotation). It's up to us to do something about it. I finally signed the impeachment petition last night -- with some misgivings... it's a little sloppy for someone of Ramsey Clark's stature. But ya can't have everything poifect.
A few days age, I wrote "Yet, had he hired a lateral thinker, Saddam could easily have prevented this war or even won it without firing a shot.
How? Ideas please?"
With an understanding of military psychology, my proposed solution was extremely cheap and simple.
All that was required was that Saddam dress all his soldiers and festoon all his military targets in Iraq in AMERICAN FLAGS!
Because no American patriot would ever fire upon the flag and any Commander-In-Chief ordering him to do it would be impeached as a traitor.
Let's talk a bit about what's going on domestically (remember that?)
A couple of days ago there was a program on NPR about welfare "reform". I got in in the middle and had to leave before the end. I actually listened to this program for about 15 minutes. So I don't know who this very squeaky voiced, neophyte was, but she was surely not up on her preparation. The idea she expressed with the enthusiasm only an acolyte could muster was for a part of the plan which would replace job placement and training with (excuse me while I laugh).............(can you believe it)........ marriage counceling. Now isn't that just like the fanatical religious right? In our business, not offering help and encouragement, but telling us the righteous way to live our lives. They're in our bedrooms and in our faces. Yet again another initiative by GW that has no chance of working.
And at home in the Congress, we've passed the bills for welfare "reform" and next is partial birth abortion, if it hasn't already been passed and a ban on cloning for any purpose. Good by science, hello church butinskys.
This is setting us back decades, we'll soon be in the dark ages, or are we already?
The man must go!
I read a summary of what Cheney had to say on Meet the Press on Sunday, as he outlined the Bush "strategy." Note the subtle shift from what had seemed to be a key goal -- Capturing or killing Saddam:
"Now, what happens to Saddam Hussein obviously is of great interest. My guess is, under those circumstances, he's likely to be captured if he's not first killed perhaps by his own people," Cheney said. "... the objective isn't necessarily him per se, but it clearly is to get rid of his government and to put a new one in its place."
The objective isn't necessarily him per se? Oh, really? Now we see how ill-conceived this invasion really is, and how success can be declared without achieving the main goal. Not unlike our big win against Osama Bin Laden, who, if memory serves, is still at large.
Drilling in the arctic and the abortion bill were voted down in the senate
Just for entertainment. Sorry about those >'s , it's copied from an email. couldn't locate an original on the web. besides, i'm not here, i am studying!
This is an open letter from Michael Moore, which openly criticizes
> > George W. Bush.
He is an author and documentary filmmaker who made 'Roger & Me' few years ago and this year made the controversial movie 'Bowling for Columbine'. This movie is a very informative exploration of current
American affairs and love with gun and violence in their society. He is an outspoken critic on US policies and his book 'Stupid White Man' is a satirical look at American politics and corporate structure.

Dear Governor Bush:
So today is what you call "the moment of truth," the day that "France and the rest of world have to show their cards on the table." I'm glad to hear that this day has finally arrived. Because, I gotta tell ya, having survived 440 days of your lying and conniving, I wasn't sureif I could take much more. So I'm glad to hear that today is Truth Day, 'cause I got a few truths I would like to share with you:
1. There is virtually NO ONE in America (talk radio nutters and Fox News aside) who is gung-ho to go to war. Trust me on this one. Walk out of the White House and on to any street in America and try to find five people who are PASSIONATE about wanting to kill Iraqis. YOU WON'T FIND THEM! Why? 'Cause NO Iraqis have ever come here and killed any of us! No Iraqi has even threatened to do that. You see, this is how we average Americans think: If a certain so-and-so is not perceived as a threat to our lives, then, believe it or not, we don't want to kill him! Funny how that works!
2. The majority of Americans -- the ones who never elected you -- are not fooled by your weapons of mass distraction. We know what the real issues are that affect our daily lives -- and none of them begin with I or end in Q. Here's what threatens us: two and a half million jobs lost since you took office, the stock market having become a cruel joke, no one knowing if their retirement funds are going to be there, gas now costs almost two dollars -- the list goes on and on. Bombing Iraq will not make any of this go away. Only you need to go away for things to improve.
3. As Bill Maher said last week, how bad do you have to suck to lose a popularity contest with Saddam Hussein? The whole world is against you, Mr. Bush. Count your fellow Americans among them.
4. The Pope has said this war is wrong, that it is a SIN. The Pope!
But even worse, the Dixie Chicks have now come out against you! How bad
does it have to get before you realize that you are an army of one on this
war? Of course, this is a war you personally won't have to fight. Just like when you went AWOL while the poor were shipped to Vietnam in your place.
5. Of the 535 members of Congress, only ONE (Sen. Johnson of South Dakota) has an enlisted son or daughter in the armed forces! If you really want to stand up for America, please send your twin daughters over to Kuwait right now and let them don their chemical warfare suits. And let's see every member of Congress with a child of military age also sacrifice their kids for this war effort. What's that you say? You don't THINK so? Well, hey, guess what -- we don't think so either!
6. Finally, we love France. Yes, they have pulled some royal
screw-ups. Yes, some of them can pretty damn annoying. But have you forgotten we wouldn't even have this country known as America if it weren't for the French? That it was their help in the Revolutionary War that won it for us? That our greatest thinkers and founding fathers -- Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin, etc. -- spent many years in Paris where they refined the concepts that lead to our Declaration of Independence and our Constitution? That it was France who gave us our Statue of Liberty, a Frenchman who built the Chevrolet, and a pair of French brothers who invented the movies? And now they are doing what only a good friend can do -- tell you the truth about yourself, straight, no b.s. Quit
pissing on the French and thank them for getting it right for once. You know, you really should have traveled more (like once) before you took over. Your ignorance of the world has not only made you look stupid, it has painted you into a corner you can't get out of.
Well, cheer up -- there IS good news. If you do go through with this war, more than likely it will be over soon because I'm guessing there aren't a lot of Iraqis willing to lay down their lives to protect Saddam Hussein. After you "win" the war, you will enjoy a huge bump in the popularity polls as everyone loves a winner -- and who doesn't like to see a good ass-whoopin' every now and then (especially when it 's some third world ass!). So try your best to ride this victory all the way to next year's election. Of course, that's still a long ways away, so we'll all get to have a good hardy-har-har while we watch the economy sink even further down the toilet!
But, hey, who knows -- maybe you'll find Osama a few days before the election! See, start thinking like THAT! Keep hope alive! Kill Iraqis they got our oil!!
Gotta love Mike Moore. Ever funny and intelligent.
Night and day, for many months, we, the U.N. and the world have been warned by our brave leaders Bush, Chaney, Rumsfeld and Powell of Saddam's thousands of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons and the threat to his neighbours and America.
Saddam is absolutely disgusting. How dare he seek to make liars out of these models of honesty and benevolence by using not a single one against our forces and not even bothering to put up a fight?
In turn, making it appear that this whole exercise has been no more than a cynical and massive oil and land grab, by a gang of slimy pocket-lining claim-jumpers.
Is there nothing this evil monster will not do to undermine faith in our great and glorious leaders and confidence in the competence of our media?
D'artagnan, it's indeed the old bait and switch routine. They try and get you all fired up about one thing and then bring on the switcheroo. Don't you feel as if the country has fallen prey to some old flimflam scheme? That bunch in DC is nothing more than a gang of street hustlers.
