Not at all, Tres. I'm in strong agreement that it's really important to get even the most far-out opinions on the table and discussed; but then it's really important to keep the language of the discussion low key (I like the humor I find in A2K). The hardest thing of all is when someone gets up your nose and you want, not just satisfaction but SATISFACTION IN PUBLIC!! Been there, done that! The blood is up, the pleasure of seeing the OTHER fall in a wounded heap is so-o-o-o tempting... The price is the thread's loss of perfectly decent people who can't stand the sight of blood... Thanks for understanding my smarmy, sucky post!
Not smarmy at all. And I like your characterization of how we can get sucked into escalating the discussion. Been there, done that, and (sadly) probably will again. But I'm trying!
wolf, Under the scenario that Mr Scheer describes Bush's march to war, how do you feel about the need for Americans to support our troops when they attack Iraq? c.i.
This joke made me laught, because it made me think about this dad as GWBush. c.i. Enjoy.
Dear Jack,
I have been unable to sleep since I broke off your engagement to my daughter. Will you forgive and forget?
I was much too sensitive about your mohawk, tattoo and pierced nose. I now realize that motorcycles aren't really that dangerous, and I really should not have reacted that way to the fact that you have never held a job. I am sure, too, that some other very nice people live under the bridge in the park. Sure my daughter is only 18 and wants to marry you instead of going to Harvard on full scholarship. After all, you can't learn everything about life from books. I sometimes forget how backward I can be. I was wrong. I was a fool. I have now come to my senses, and you have my full blessing to marry my daughter.
Sincerely,
George W. Bush
compassion is a spin, not a fact!
More of my pet peeve:
"We're being challenged. We're meeting those challenges because of our faith. We carried our grief to the Lord Almighty in prayer."
"Liberty is God's gift to every human being in the world."
-- GWB, speaking to the Association of National Religious Broadcasters
"[We] have been blessed by God Himself to have George W. Bush as president."
--Glenn Plummer, leader of the National Religious Broadcasters, 02/10/03
This crap stopped being funny a long time ago.
Muhammed Atta flew into the WTC to please God.
Bush is ready to murder thousands in Iraq to please God.
Palestinian suicide bombers murder Jews to please God.
I wonder how God feels about all of this?
If GWB is God's answer to the world, then, I have lost my faith in God!
perhaps we need a rewrite of the bible "and jesus, driving an Abrams tank, hied the money-changers out of the synagogue" dubya rode shotgun.
Quote:Let's talk about replacing GWBush in 2004.
How about with a piece of furniture? Surely no one on the street will notice, and we'll be much less likely to have dangerous international situations to deal with . . .
furniture is generally considered "functional"
How do you like my new Blue Bush Settee?

can't stop laughin' . . . hard to type . . .
dyslexia, cures two ills with one potion!
A good analyst makes things functional and then finds a good use. A sofa that is meant to not be sat on is the best I could do with #43!
To imply that furniture is more functional than the president of the US is a insult - but so true! c.i.

Aww, i don't think the furniture of the nation will hold it against us . . .
trespassers will
Compared to the abuzz this is a walk in the park. As long as people do not insult each other or start using foul language a little heated discussion should be of no consequence. Anyhow by this time I am well aware of your way of expressing things and persistence and the fact that you must have the last word. To that end when I feel further conversation is meaningless I just cut it off. In any event it is a waste of energy to take offense.
That said the piece in question is based upon Bush's actions and demeanor and is the impression that the author and many others have of our fearless leader. Fearless when he is out of harms way. While it is true you can't judge a book by it's cover you can when you open it up and read it. Bush is an open book.
And all the drawings so child-like. c.i.
