What do we know? We know the politicians who willingly sent 58,000 American sons to their blood-splattered deaths in Vietnam, and caused thousands more to be permanently maimed and injured (both physically and pyschologically), pulled strings to keep THEIR SONS SAFE.
Bush did not run to Canada to evade the draft; he didn't have to do that. His daddy pulled political strings to keep sonny out of combat duty. Last night, "60 Minutes" informed us in detail about the strings that were pulled to get Bush into the Texas Air National Guard. He disobeyed direct orders to honor his commitment--he disobeyed direct orders to get his physical. His failure to comply with his commitment and his disobedience of direct orders was white-washed and sugar-coated in his records.
Bush might have trained as a fighter pilot, but he never served as a fighter pilot. He never risked his life in active service. He expected others to go to Vietnam and "die for their country" while he remained safe.
Now that Bush is president, he launched another devastating war in Iraq. Again, he expects our sons to "die for their country" which is something that he was never willing to do himself. [FYI: That's called HYPOCRISY.] The death toll in Iraq is growing and there is no end in sight.
The American people are questioning the motives for this war. The American people are protesting our continuing military involvement. The American people are fearful that this present-day Iraq war will be a repeat of the devastating Vietnam experience. How does our president respond? Bush wants to silence our voices, eviscerate our rights protected by the Constitution, and squash dissent.
Bush has betrayed the very ideals and freedoms that serve as a foundation for this country. He is not worthy to lead this country. He has not united us as a nation----he has divided us. He barely won the controversial election in 2000. The only way he can win the presidency for four more years is if he pulls his powerful, money-laced, war-mongering, corporate-welfare strings and rigs the outcome.
Absolute power corrupts absolutely. However, the odor of governmental corruption is becoming extremely pungent and the American people will not ignore the smell for much longer. I think Bush has underestimated the collective intelligence of the American people.
