Perhaps Baldimo, the Lord is trying to humble you by allowing you to display such arrogance as to claim to know Him on an international forum, then quoting something 100% wrong.

No superior dance for you Miss Church Lady. Sit down please. Laughing

Doesn't bother me, if it's false then so be it. Remember I'm not Christian and don't claim to be. I should have known anything that comes along in email should be doubted. My wife should know better then to send me such things.

I still think its funny how a man who claims to be religious cannot in the least vote his conscious on issues. Kerry claims to believe that life begins at conception but still votes in favor of abortion. I wonder if God still has a seat in heaven for Kerry. To support murder is a shameful thing.

Maybe Kerry is wise enough to understand that, although HE believes that life begins at conception, others might no believe the same. And since it is others who would have to bear the consequences of his votes, he gives us the benefit of the doubt. Thank God!

But Saddam Hussein is still a human being, deserving of whatever unconditional forgiveness you dish out to anyone else. How do you know that he's not capable of learning from example? What sort of examples has he been set, do you think?

Who in his Time interview states he has never prayed for Saddam Hussein. Very Christ like, Junior.

Matthew 18:21,22 "Then Peter came and said to Him, 'Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?' Jesus said to him, 'I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.'"

You're missing the point.

When Jesus made that sort of statement or similar statements about turning the other cheek and what not, there was always a built in assumption, i.e. that everybody in the picture was quasi-reasonable at least and capable of learning from such an example.

All of the original Christians were Jews. Kind of like what I told a buddy of mine once who asked me what the difference was between a crow and a raven: I replied it was like the Masons and the Shriners, i.e. that you had to be a crow for six or eight years before they'd LET you be a raven...

Jesus in fact was telling Jews how to conduct themselves in dealing with other Jews for the most part, at least early on; the idea of preaching the gospel of Christ to gentiles came a bit later.

None of these kinds of admonitions is applicable in the case of outright barbarians like Saddam Hussein. Note the way the admonition is phrased, i.e.

Quote:

"Then Peter came and said to Him, 'Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Up to seven times?' Jesus said to him, 'I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.'"

Notice that you do not read anything like:

Quote:

"Then Peter came and said to him, "Lord, how often shall the barbarian burn our villages, steal all of our chickens and sheep, rape all our women, kill everybody they can get their hands on, pull our city down to the last stone and plow salt into the region, and I still forgive all that ****?" Whereupon Jesus said to him: "Whattsa matter Bubba, ain't you got no sense of humor??"

I mean, copies of the new testament can be found online and aren't that hard to search. Let me know if you can find anything like that; I never have.

are you saying that Jesus, who knew he was to be arrested, convicted, flogged and crucified had a built in assumption that people were quasi reasonable? Nice try.... Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

You don't seem to have gotten it. ANY lesson is intended for somebody capable of profiting from it. A true barbarian like Hussein cannot profit from any of Christ's examples.

Consider that in the 1800s, i.e. before leftists destroyed our judicial systems, that when they hanged some outlaw, they would invariably say "May God have mercy on your soul", and meant it.

Now, they still hanged the guy. I mean, they didn't ever say "Hey, you know what? God appears to have so much mercy on your soul that we're just gonna turn your ass loose. Have a nice day!"

In other words, religion is not meant to be an outright escape from common sense.

Actually, maybe you don't seem to have gotten it. Forgiveness (turning the other cheek) is spiritually to the benefit of the forgiver, not the forgiven. I think maybe what you've illustrated is why we have the separation between church and state. For an individual, forgiveness and refraining from violence is important spiritually. For a nation or state, whose responsibility is to maintain order, maybe not.

Another way of looking at it: the term Jesus used for trying to teach moral lessons to barbarians was "Casting pearls before swine".

In other words, if you wish to attain enlightenment, don't be a pig. That's a good reason for not voting democratic when you get right down to it.

swolf I really do think you've comepletely misunderstood what Jesus was blabbering about. What happened to 'Do Unto Others As You Would Have Them Do Unto You"???? Saddam may be a Barbarian, but he's still an 'other,' so a Christian should do unto Saddam as they would have him do unto them, surely!

Even if someone is unrepentant and will not change his/her ways and that person has to punished; up until their death they have a chance to be reconciled with God.

George Bush is not God or Jesus and is not able to divine into men's hearts and know if someone is able to repent their hearts and soul and turn it over to God so he has no business judging anyone's soul and deciding if they are deserving of prayer or not. Neither is swolf God or Jesus and the same goes for him/her.

I think for anyone that does not have blinders on George Bush's true feelings or whatever have been shown. Anybody that laughs when a woman is put to death or when told that a plane has crashed into a building and the first words out of his mouth is, "that must have been a bad pilot" has serious issues that need to dealt with and should certainly not be in the position where he has the lives of so many in the palm of his hand.

Yeah, it was the most corny phrase, but there is a lot of truth in it. I think more Christians should wear one - the things they do are far from Christ...

Are you a Christian? If you are not then how do you know how a Christian is supposed to act?

It was said to hate the sin but love the sinner. I think this is what a majority of Christians do, not the wackos you see and seem to think about.

Rolling Eyes

McGentrix would of course roll his eyes even though he says he's not a Christian.

I lived in Lynchburg Va. in my teen years and spent a lot of summers there before. My Grandfather worked part time for the Falwells after retiring, and I knew a lot of the kids, usd to smoke pot and drop acid with Jerry's nephews.

Jerry Falwell started his "Christian " Academy for the express purpose of keeping blacks out...and for years would not allow them to enter Silver Springs Lake out on 501.

One of my great pleasures when I was young and would visit my family in the summer was hanging out at Riverside pool all day. One summer I arrived there to find that they'd closed the pools rather than let blacks in.

American Christianity in action. Nice.

Rolling of de Eyes is McG's way to denounce someone's statement when he has no evidence to support his case.
