"There should be more people like you"

When it was a 10 min conversation with someone you met for the first time after you have already said goodbye to each other?

@heyhelpme,
No. It would be fairly natural if you were highly impressed.

@heyhelpme,
Not enough context for any type of response. Who said it to who? What relationship does one speaker have to the other?

It sounds like the person receiving that sentiment has some particularly low self esteem to not accept compliments. On the other hand, it's like thanking a veteran for their service simply to recognize they happened to be a veteran in the first place. For many people, it's just a nice thing to say but not necessarily mean wholeheartedly.

It could be a compliment.

You might have impressed this person in just a short time and they wanted to express their admiration for what you said or are doing in your life.

@heyhelpme,
Not necessarily - it depends on what was discussed - what happened around.

For example - If you just kicked a puppy and talked for 10 minutes to someone and they said there should be more people like you --- then odd.

If you just gave CPR and saved a person life and then had a 10 min conversation and they said there should be more people like you -- then not odd.

I suspect though it was something in between leaving toward the positive - maybe you said something that struck a positive cord with this person thus the remark.

Agree with Tsarstepan, Punkey and Linkat. It is not necessarily inappropriate in the right circumstances. If in that ten minute conversation you said something that impressed the person as being something they admired, it's perfectly fine.

It doesn't have to be an extradordinarily great thing, maybe just something smart. I got a compliment similar to that some years ago when I had a presecription that was expensive, and I called around various pharmacies to get the best price. There was a substantial difference.

@heyhelpme,
This is a wonderful phrase. "There should be more people like you"- I like it. It inspires me to notice the best in people and to pay more compliments.
