@ehBeth,
What a great idea. Good way to get permanent homes for this kitties. And for those that just want to spend time with kitties without the responsibilities.

I think $8 is too steep for time with the cats though unless a portion is a donation. I think they would have more repeat business if the amount were just a few dollars and limit time.

@Linkat,
They dropped the $8 after a week or so. Now it's just purchase of a coffee.

@ehBeth,
Oh did they - the article said they dropped it for the opening, but plan on re-installing the fee.

I bet they get some sort of tax deduction for charity - like whatever they pay for the space/food/supplies for the cats as this is for cat adoption.

@Linkat,
I walk past their door three times a week - people walk in, buy their coffee and go to the back section.

Maybe they'll try to put a fee back on when it's tourist season.

__

It's pretty hard to get charitable status/tax credits up here. They'll have to make their money on volume of coffee sales.

@ehBeth,
ah I was getting confused between the one noted starting in US and Canada - didn't realize - usually for something like that it in the US it would be considered donating to the animal shelter --- the space, the materials etc. as long as the animal shelter had a certain type of IRS status.

Some years back, in France, the people at the table next to me (inside) had a Great Dane - who decided that under my table was where he needed to sit.

Not much sense arguing with a bloody big dog and thoughtless owners. A very unpleasant meal.

I was sitting having coffee and croissant at a cafe/restaurant in the Alps, which had a very large wooden deck built out from the side of the mountain.
From where we sat, we could look down on an aerodrome in the valley, and watch the light aircraft take off and land like tiny white flies in the distance.
We were very high.

We watched a middle aged couple walk their very large dog across the deck towards an empty table, but about halfway across the dog froze.
He had his head down and had obviously realised that the gaps between the decking revealed a verticle drop of a few thousand feet.

They tried coaxing him, pushing him, pulling him, bribing him....nothing worked. The dog was planted to the floor and nothing was going to shift him.
In the end the man had to physically heave the great lump into his arms and carry him back into the restaurant, where they were offered an indoor table.

The dog was fine when I saw him later. Just terrified of heights.

@Lordyaswas,
Couldn't for the life of me remember the name of the place where that Restaurant was, but it suddenly came to me just now.
The Saleve, in the French Alps.

Just googled it and found a pic of an indoor table with the same view the dog owners had, whilst the dog lay quietly underneath them, probably wishing that they'd finish quick and take him home.

If you squint and look carefully at that lake (Lake Geneva), you will see the famous fountain of water, just to the right of the table lamp.
