@techmom,
This is a question for your doctor. Ask to be tested for environmental allergies.

@techmom,
I'm allergic to mold and have been nearly forever, that is fifty years. It all started when a few things coincided - I had a history class in an old university building (beautiful to look at, good teacher too) and had recently started smoking, soon to be a habit for, uh, the next twenty years. This was around the same time I got my first pair of contact lenses, which I knew even then was irrelevant but added to my misery in being nineteen. It was a sneezerama, at the least.

I saw an allergist at some point and turned out to be allergic to 64 items, though in regular life, some of those haven't bothered me. But mold was one of the biggest offenders in that testing.

Jespah is correct, you should see your doctor, but I will add, I think going directly to an actual allergy specialist would save you time and possibly (who knows) money.

While mold should be avoided when possible, only a doctor can help you figure your problem out. Unless you want to experiment, by taking a long vacation, to see if your symptoms go away. The downsides to this is, you will not be making money during the away time and if the symptoms persist, you will have lost valuable time getting treatment. Which is why the advice you have already received is the best. Don't rely on strangers online for diagnosis. We actually have no clue.

An odd thing about allergy that I've learned over time, time since I used to be in a medical field, is that sometimes people now say that lack of exposure to the allergen can be a problem. Cats, for example.

My mother was very unhappy about cats being around me, getting into my baby buggy (they were popular back then) and smothering me. I'm not kidding. I'll add that she was born in 1901, to give some perspective.

I'm allergic to both cats and dogs, and have lived with both as an adult.
I did have one dog around in my early life, my aunt's irish setter when I was about five, and before that, my parents irish setter puppy that died fairly soon... but maybe that exposure that I don't remember was useful.
I'm still a mess around some cats, and can easily have a dog in my house sans trouble. Except for one, and, oddly as they are supposed to be the least allergenic according to whomever; that one was a standard poodle.

Does this mean we should all have been exposed to mold as toddlers? I doubt it, of course.
