Have you given your child ibuprofen to bring down the fever? I would do this first. Then call your doctor.

I am not a doctor... but when my daughter had a similar fever a while ago, I called the nurse on duty. She told us that if ibuprofen works to bring down the fever that a trip to the ER wasn't necessary but that we should schedule a follow up appointment with the doctor ASAP.

However, you should call your doctor before making this decision... does your healthcare provider have an emergency nurse on duty you could call?
