Speculation
Along with your so-called speculation there is actual historical fact. Whereas in the bible there is no verifiable fact. It is loaded with fantasy and hearsay. I saw, he said and etc.

I went to this site
And found this:
Quote:
Just because these can be "explained" doesn't mean that they don't exist.
Now, as you all know, I have a very small brain. (True, some say I'm narrow minded) So, it occurs to me that, if they can be explained, the contrary MAY be true.

I'm reminded of Jesus' comment at Matthew 11:25: "At that time Jesus said in response: "I publicly praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and intellectual ones and have revealed them to babes."

These comments have been reviewed and approved by my friend and quintessential common man, Joe Sixpack.

The only way we can get something accurate is by putting all of it together.

I have studied and loved history all of my life, please to not subject it to your typically witless statements from authority . . . an authority which you do not possess . . .

What is history then, if it is not what someone has observed and recorded?

Hi, Setanta. I've been hoping to land on a thread you may be watching. I've been wondering: What is your dog's name? My dog's name was Stanley. He died, I'm sorry to say.

That is Miss Cleopatra, usually just referred to as Cleo, although i always attach the honorific . . . to me she is Miss Cleo. She is not my dog--i don't believe that people own dogs, and espcially not cats (although quite a few cats have their own people). However, in this case, i not only do not own her, she does not live with me. She lives with my Sweetiepie Girl . . .

Miss Cleo. Pat her head for me. I'm sorry to have referred to her as a possession, it just seemed too wordy to ask "What is the name of that doggie in your avatar? It is better for her never to have met Stanley. He was a lecher from birth.

She'd have torn him up . . . her companion in crime is Mr. Bailey. Mr. Bailey is outgoing and good natured, and wants to meet almost every other dog he sees . . . Miss Cleo immediately offers to rip their throats out . . . When i am walking them, i let his leash run out so he can go say "Hi" . . . and i keep her on a short leash, because she will gladly attack a dog five times her size . . . it seems to startle the big dogs . . .

Stanley was a wimp, except when it came to chasing cars.

Ah, too bad . . . a friend of ours here from Oz had a doggie whose ear was cropped by a shark, but who nevertheless continued to surf with his human buddy . . . i found out recently that he had died after 15 years . . . i always hope that dogs can live out their long lives in the bosom of their respective families, because their relatively short life spans assure that they die in the company of those whom they love, and who love them in return.

I did love old Stanley. And he appeared to love me, or was it the dog biscuits? Never mind, he was fun. I should like to find another.
Gotta go. Have a nice day!

Setanta, you didn't answer my question, what exactly is history?

History is the careful compilation of evidence from the past which is rigorously subjected to well-established procedures for determining the reliability of the evidence. It is not just a simple-minded case of he wrote, she said . . .

It is upon such a basis, by the by, the the bible cannot be considered a reliable source for history--it cannot be confirmed by outside evidence in most cases, and in those cases in which it actually does refer to an event recorded elsewhere, it is almost always contradicted.

I'm not going to play your silly games with you. People here have repeatedly pointed out contradictions in the text of the bible to you, and you have simply replied that those were complimentary statements--when even an elementary school student can see the inherent contradictions. If i were stupid enough to waste my time doing the work necessary to point these historical contradictions out to you, you'd simply make some absurd statement to deny them. I don't visit these fora to facilitate you jacking off religiously.

That's because they are easily explained, you're like a bad teenager, you keep rebelling every time I provide an answer. I give an explanation, and all you do is say I'm full of shyt. It seems that you have your mind set, and it seems that you don't even listen and try to understand my explanations. Do I have you all wrong Setanta?
