Is "respond back" redundant and grammatically incorrect?

Is "respond back" redundant and grammatically incorrect? Should it never be used and instead simply "respond" be used alone 100% of the time?

IMO respond back is redundant. Respond suggests that you're getting back. No need to repeat it.

Of course Indi without context we might suppose there's a choice between responding back and responding forward

It is awkward and makes the speaker sound un-educated. Your use of grammar, however, is not warranted. Grammar is not concerned with redundancy.

Most trolls are just itching for someone to respond, and will usually go out of their way in being outrageous or childishly obnoxious in their moronic attempts to get a reponse.

I wouldn't normally see respond back in communication in North America, but I have that formulation from business colleagues in India. I suspect it's a local style.
