edit* covering my tracks now that it's solved. thanks to everyone who helped. figured I should erase this in case he does a search on my username since I plan on sending him a few of the guesses that were on here. Wink

I have now turned the game around and have been feeding him clues OR eliminating a state. I told him I would give him one clue a day.

I think I know more about the state now than he does. hehehe

Hint #11 makes Seattle sounds likely since that's where Starbucks started.

not to overwhelm anyone, but you can tell I've been doing my homework.

My thoughts:

Westin and W hotels advertise for EXACTLY 250 thread count sheets, so it may be in a city that has one. There are only a few other hotels I could find that advertise for it AND fit the other clues.

He said 2 of the clues he gave, he regretted. I am POSITIVE that is one of them.

Thoughts from family and friends:

These are guesses from either friends or family. Please Agree WITH or Mark them off if you have reasons against it. I don't think they were thinking about ALL the clues when they made the guesses.

Hint: I can't remember if I gave this one. He said I may guess the big city, but not the little town. Not everyone has heard of it.

1. Hamptons

2. Just a random thought that popped into my head now--doesn't Newport, RI have a jazz festival every year? I'm not sure about coffee, though

3. Java Juice & Jazz festival in Memphis, TN !!

4. im going to have to say seattle,wa. HELLO!!!! seattle is known for having a LOT of places to have java. and in may they also have the Northwest Folklife Festival which is the largest folklife festival in the country. in seattle you can ride the metro bus for FREE as long as you stay within the downtown area. (problem with this is, his last clues were meant to throw me off and I'm afraid Seattle is too obvious and far away BUT again...if it fits, it fits)

5. Florida. The keys or there are lots of celebs in South Beach.

6. Park City, where the Sundance Film Festival is located. Salt Lake City would be a "big" city that's nearby, and Park City is so small that you wouldn't need a car, probably

7. I have Lake Tahoe on my head

8. the Brown is historic- like the quarter, has the ky derby (pro horse racing), no honeymoon suites but all big rooms, music industry, triple sheeted beds w/ 310 count, cant get the high elevation to work... thought this also might be near some military staging areas, to maximize time together, not traveling...

9. what about monterey/carmel? you can see tons of famous people around there (pebble beach?), and it's the "little town" near the "big city" (SF).

Just remember he didn't want to travel far from TX ...but there is a chance he changed his mind yet he did feel strongly towards it.

#8 to me is the easiest one to start narrowing things down from (uh, that's lousy grammar, but I'm sure you know what I mean) - so, it's a place where professional horseback riding occurs. To my mind, this is Louisville, KY, Pimlico, MD, Belmont Park (Queens), NY, Saratoga, NY or possibly some place with a rodeo or harness racing.

#7 to me means just about anything. A high elevation could mean high up for other reasons (the stock market?) and manufactured might mean produced. Since the meaning is unclear you can't really trust the language. It might be a manufacturer of wind turbines.

Anyway, given the possibilities of Saratoga and Belmont Park, plus no riding in the area, plus no rental car, plus Lifestyles of the Rich etc., plus music, plus possibly the manufacturing (weird) clue, plus the view, plus the choice of outfits, my guess is --

New York.

But I'm not sure if it's Niagara Falls (there's a wind turbine manufacturer in Katonah, far but not incredibly far, plus a hotel in Buffalo, plus this could also go to the idea of crossing borders, as Niagara is right on the Canadian border) or NYC. My inkling is it's NYC. I think the java thing cinches it as I don't think he means coffee; I think he means computers, and NYC has a Silicone Alley.

But if you've already been to either place, then those are out. And NY isn't too far from TX by plane; a flight is about 2 hrs, to Buffalo it's less than another hr and you'd go a different route 'cause you'd be bypassing NYC.

Seattle is another possibility (I spent part of my own honeymoon in Seattle, actually :-D). So java there can also have 2 meanings, but there are considerably fewer famous people you could run into, and of course you could go riding there. Hmm.

I love how you broke that all down. I have asked this at other places and am so sick of reminding people "the clues must fit everything" not "that one clue you won't let go of..." ...but that's also not very lady-like for me to say, so I held my tongue. Razz

I am going to research all the places you suggested b/c they're great.

Browns Hotel is in Kentucky AND they have 250 thread count sheets!
However, what is manufactured there that is meant for high elevations?

Anyways, EVERYONE is guessing Seattle. I have been researching that too. I'm just not sure if the music and coffee clue was TOO obvious (meaning, so that's not it) since it's common knowledge it's known for that. I want to think Seattle too *smile* ...but where to famous people hang? The "W" there has 250 thread count sheets but it doesn't sound like it's in a small town like he described (but near a big city).

He is SO certain I won't get this. Makes me Mad. I'm very competitive. Mad

I HAVE BEEN to Seattle AND Niagra Falls but HE's a GUY. I don't think he remembers. In fact, I emailed him today "what states do you think I've been to....." and he only guessed 3 (2 states we went to together, and where I was in the AF).

NY is a VERY good guess b/c I said I wanted to go there for our honeymoon. But where? ....esp. since I guessed NY and then we began the guessing game where he said "I won't be able to guess the city or state, let alone the hotel." His big mistake was telling me the thread-count.

thanks.

He's very smart and knows those useless trivia facts. ...so I think it would be something that was common knowledge (the high elevation).

Boeing - Seattle
Sears Tower - Chicago
Goodyear Blimp - Ohio (this one is HIS example though, so it's not it most likely)

I am however, as Jessica Simpson as they come, which is why I've come here for your help. Smile

fealola, it does seem like that guess would be a good fit. Fits the coffee, elevation, and even famous people go here.

Plus, that place looks beautiful. I just wonder, is this a place worth taking your bride if you only have a 4-day weekend?

A little less than that almost.

I think the site actually says the thread count too and I can't find it on that site, BUT will keep looking. The site is big. I'm also bookmarking sites I want to go to in the future.

edit* Oh, and I don't think the site advertises for a pool. the pool on this site is something I don't think anyone could forget when giving clues. Breath-taking.

If you consider celebs, South Beach is full of them, they have very nice hotels including the boutique type that may not have a honeymoon suite. You wouldn't really need a car, as there is lots of nightlife and restaurants all along the beach. I can't fit the java thing though and I'm sure there is lots of music too.

Newport, RI does have an annual jazz fest - I do not believe this fest is in May though; with the mansions - think rich and during a jazz fest you could see lots of celebs. In Newport, I would also think you would want a rental car - unless you are staying in town, but then you cannot reach the beaches without a car.

Seattle does not fit the celebs thing either unless the festival brings in lots of them. I also don't associate Seattle with Rich and Famous. May in Seattle you probably would not use too many shorts.

Lake Tahoe could be a good thought.

Yes you are right lots of celebs in monterey and carmel. Seems to fit all the hints, who knows about the music part.

Here are a couple of other thoughts for Rich & Famous, not too far to fly, lots of celebs - Palm Springs or Las Vegas.

Las Vegas - high elevation maybe a stretch but the roller coaster that is on top of one of the casinos. You would not need a rental car and they have some new transportation system. Maybe the Hard Rock Café Hotel that would fit into music. I cannot imagine that you could go horseback riding in Vegas. Still can't think of the java, but I'll try. I cannot get on their website now to check the thread count.

Oh and congrats to you both and wish him a speedy and safe return back to you!

thanks. means a lot. I too am praying he comes home safe.

Those are great guesses. I am taking all of them and trying to investigate myself.

I know there is a Westin in almost every possible state which solves a lot of the "what hotel."

He may have been to Vegas "once." I was trying to pull it out of him last night. I'll email him right now.

His sister thought the keys, vegas, and ny were good honeymoon choices that weren't too far away and he trusts her opinions.

He knows I hate being cold due to a condition I have (another hint). I don't know how cold Seattle or Colorado are. Colorado being his favorite state BUT his family and him have been to several cities (and i don't know all of them).

I think you are right about the Brown Hotel I just looked at the website. It seems to fit the bill.

Rich and famous - Described as follows: "As in decades past, The Brown figures prominently in the social life of Louisville as its opulent ballrooms are the site of many of Louisville's most elegant and gracious social functions"

They advertise 250 thread count sheets on their website

No honeymoon suite, but they do have the Muhammad Ali Suite. The Brown's sleeping rooms are among the most spacious in the city, many encompassing over 400-square feet. In many hotels, The Brown's Luxury Rooms would be considered Junior Suites. These rooms are furnished with dressers, armoires, color televisions, large bathrooms, irons and ironing boards, hairdryers, and Caswell Massey bath products.

Not a far distance to travel; It sounds as if it would have a similar view as New Orleans; not been there; No passports, but you cross state lines; High elevations - got me on there; horseback riding for experts only - the Derby/churchhill

No rental car needed. - The Brown is also close to business, shopping and attractions such as the home of the Kentucky Derby, Churchill Downs, and The Palace Theater, featuring world-class entertainment. The airport is just six miles away, and hotel guests enjoy complimentary van shuttle service to and from the airport.

Still can't fit the java.

I am so excited for you the hotel sounds fantastic!

lol

It's so funny to hear other people excited for me!

See, but I can't get the JAVA or the elevation thing to fit either.

Seattle's W SPECIFICALLY says "you won't need a rental car", 250 tc, and the java, high elevation, and music fits.

http://www.vacations.net/seattle_tacoma/w_hotel_seattle_284304.htm

Again, problem is "is that too far" since he was firmly against CA. See, he told me this when he was home for 2 wks leave. Then when he went back to the desert, he began looking at sites to book our honeymoon. (could have changed his mind).

I wish I knew more about the Hamptons or someone could guess something that was high elevation in Kentucky. He said last night he's been to Kentucky BUT I assume it was for Army training.

O-K one more before I go...

Is Vancover too far?

Here is another hotel that fits. The Opus Hotel Vancouver is a deluxe hotel located in fashionable Yaletown. The Opus is Vancouver's most stylish and contemporary boutique hotel, just steps away from the inner harbor, recreation, shopping, spas, and some of the city's best restaurants. The business and entertainment districts, Stanley Park, beaches and the Alaska cruise ship terminal are only a few minutes away. The Opus Hotel Vancouver is also home to the popular French brasserie Elixir and the eclectic Opus Bar. Guests are offered complimentary car service - no car rentals - to all downtown locations including all of the cruise ship terminals.

This hotel features 97 stunning guest rooms with vibrant colors, oversized windows, and deluxe furnishings. There are five distinctly different décor schemes for the guests rooms, ranging from sleek minimalist to eclectic modern, all with the unifying elements of comfort and style. All of the guest rooms are designed with spa bathrooms featuring Kohler fixtures and their own separate climate control. - no honeymoon suite. The beds are made with 250 thread-count sheets, with goose down duvets and pillows. The rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art telecommunications, security and safety systems. The Opus Hotel Vancouver is convenient to fine dining, shopping and entertainment venues.

They have a jazz club. You cross borders.

Yaletown has evolved over the last decade into an ultra-hip residential neighborhood. Housed in the old redbrick warehouses are nightclubs, a brew pub, cafes, art studios, galleries and some of the city's best restaurants and most interesting boutiques

...thanks for going through all the trouble.

Vancouver was actually one of the places I listed that it couldn't be. We (friends) thought it was Vancouver too until he said his sister honeymooned there.

I really don't want him to win. I hope someone here reads this and notices that it fits a vacation spot they've been to. :sigh:

High Elevation

He's smart--he's clever--he likes to play with words. Therefore, "high elevation" could mean elevator. The most well-known manufacturer of elevators is OTIS:

Located in Kentucky.

Helpful?

And, of course, the opposite of an amateur horse rider might be a professional jockey: Kentucky Derby?

I think you should explore cities in Kentucky very closely.

I feel like I just found the gold pot at the end of the rainbow. lol

That or you're just a crafty knowledgeable person giving my FI too much credit. ha.ha.

He does know I'm sneaky, which means he must be sneakier.

Thanks for making me a little more confident about Kentucky.

The area we're going seems to have everything because he ALWAYS emails me asking what I want to do for our honeymoon so he can make an itenery. From adventurous, to getting oiled down, to bungy jumping.

I wonder if there are other possibilities that really fit the bill. I have done so many searches and I don't find enough in the FL or NM area or others that seem "like him."
