@dlowan,
I thought of your digressions when I saw where this was going. I decided not to comment.

Very few French care to go to England though.

As a tourist destination, no. Scotland benefits from a better buzz: the hills the locks the Edimburg festival... But quite a few French go to London for work, as Walter said.

@roger,
We prob better skedaddle. If Robert gets mad someone is going to make trouble for us. Hopefully he still has a sense of humour but I dont wanna chance it cause I remember him saying that he thought thread starters should own threads. And we know he wants people to own communities (Oh sorry, "manage" chough chough).

@Olivier5,
The worst thing about our proximity to France is the smell. It happens way too much.

Quote:
Residents in parts of Kent, Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire awoke to the sulphurous smell of rotten eggs prompting dozens of calls to emergency services.
The accidental discharge of mercaptan from a factory in Rouen has caused headaches, nausea and a political panic in France.

We get loads of French over here seeking employment, our economy is working. Their economy is, well, French.

@Olivier5,
You're living in the past. Which is why you used old figures.

Quote:
Britain has overtaken France to become the second biggest economy in Europe, figures showed yesterday.

The UK clocked up growth of 2.8 per cent in 2014 – the strongest in the Group of Seven industrialised nations and seven times higher than France’s 0.4 per cent.

According to an International Monetary Fund report, this was enough for Britain to leapfrog socialist France and become the second most powerful economy in Europe, behind Germany.

The UK is expected to cement its position in the coming years as one of the fastest growing major economies in the West. The IMF is forecasting ‘solid’ growth of 2.7 per cent this year and 2.3 per cent in 2016.

As for overcompensating, you were the one who started a thread about how English is almost all French and got very upset when you were proven wrong. Your country is so threatened by cultural trends that you've actually passed legislation banning phrases like "Le Weekend," and you're still smarting at an off the cuff knob gag I made almost two years ago.

Let's not forget that this conversation is being conducted in English, like most conversations on the net.

OK, I'm back.
Did you miss me?

By the bye, that avatar is an Advent wreath with one candle burning.
This is the First Week of Advent for any atheists, agnostics, heretics,
schismatics, infidels and apostates who may not know it.
