Does "looks like nothing so much as" mean "looks almost exactly as"?

In a Somerset Maugham story the main character meets a French colonial officer in Vietnam whose wife is so wrinkled she looks like nothing so much as a little monkey.

I see that I didn't explain that quite right. Take a thing, X. X may look a little like Y. It may look a little more like Z. It may share some aspects of appearance with thousands of things, to a greater or lesser degree. But it is MOST like A, in appearance. In other words, as you said, Oris, "almost exactly like" A.
