A confusing expression: turning the snark meter way down

What does " turning the snark meter way down" mean?
Does it mean "removing the most sensitive part (from this post)"?

Context:

We’ve talked a lot about mental health recently, from panic buttons to Asperger’s (or autism spectrum disorder, if you prefer). But today we’ve come across a truly chilling article from a law professor who admits that she’s a sociopath and writes about how law is the perfect field for people like her.

I’m turning the snark meter way down on this post because, well, I don’t want to be murdered…

Note the UPDATE at the end of this post concerning the professor’s possible identity.

@oristarA,
Snark is slang for sarcasm.

People with autism and related mental health disorders tend to not understand sarcasm and literally interpret whatever is said at face value.

It simply means lowering the level of snark so that the arrow moves to the left.

It's just a literary metaphor as Maxadonca has suggested with his graphic image.

The writer is basically indicating that he/she needs to tone down his use of sarcasm because some of his audience doesn't seem to understand that he/she doesn't really mean what he's saying.
