I had a hair appointment today, and there was a new receptionist at the desk I didn't realize how accustomed I had become to people not knowing how to calculate percentages, that when she told me my bill was $75 and I asked her to add 20% for the tip, she responded..15? I said no, 20%. She said no I meant the dollar amount of the tip (20% on top of $75 is $15) I told her, OMG, Ive become so used to people not being to calculate sales tax or tip amounts, I assumed she made a mistake. Its kind of sad when you realize you're surprised when someone gives you good service or can calculate percentage.

I love this---math as math and arithmetic as arithmetic.

Alchemy, Scientology, colors, everywhere numbers and 16 has three square roots in complex space and I know them all.

I think that the top 65% of children should be taught Maths, but the other 42% should be taught something like plumbing, like I was.

@Lordyaswas,
So, something like plumbing, but not actual plumbing.

Urologist?

@izzythepush,
Fruit picking.

Damsons, mainly.

@Lordyaswas,
I have to bake a birthday cake in the next couple of days. One of the ingredients is redcurrant jelly. Couldn't find any so I bought a jar of damson jam.

That's a coincidence worthy of That's Amazing.

@izzythepush,
And we are amalgamating two houses down to one at the moment, as a new chapter of leisure looms.

Yesterday I was sorting out the London cupboards in order to fit in the Birmingham stuff (which then sat in boxes in the hall)

All in all, we found among other things that we had five jars of redcurrant jelly, four of which were unopened, two of which were pre-war.

True story, apart from the pre-war bit.

I can send you some if you like.

@Lordyaswas,
That's very kind of you but I don't think it would arrive on time. It's not that important an ingredient, used to make the cake sticky so the icing will stick to it.

Any jam will do, it's just that the recipe stated redcurrant.

I'll probably be taking the boy to London over the Summer hols if you fancy meeting up for a shandy some time.

@Lordyaswas,
If, like me, you've got a lot of raspberries right now, this recipe is brilliant.

@izzythepush,
As of Saturday, Izz, we shall be buggering off to French cow country for ....well, as long as we like now, I suppose.

Hoping to finally do the deal on a small hovel out there, and if we do, we will rent out London for at least a year.

If all goes to plan, of course.

If not, mine's an IPA!
