@edgarblythe,
Just like the roach motel?
@Ragman,
Same principle. I have the makings for a few, but have not used it, because I won't be out there where they congregate until the coming storm has passed.
@edgarblythe,
Hoping for the best for you and others in that path. This is not a good trend that is setting up.
It's not good to keep having low pressure during hurricane season. It draws all the bad weather your way. It looks like we will get high wind and mucho rain out of this one, but not hurricane strength. It so far is moving too fast to get that strong.
The local weather guy named my area as one likely to lose electrical power. We lost it for several weeks during Ike. So, good news for a2k, folks. I may have my cantankerous self off line after tomorrow, for a spell.
@edgarblythe,
watching and hoping for the best. All of those Angry Birds will be without feathers soon.

@edgarblythe,
That's what it looked like around ABQ the day we had all the wall to wall dire warnings about a severe thunderstorm. The rain lasted about 10 minutes and the wind blew for about an hour and then the sky cleared.
Hope it moves as quickly for you.
The brunt of the storm is expected to hit Matagorda. I hope that the part that gets as far as us will have considerably less wind. I am resigned to getting lots of rain.
We are in Harris County, less than a mile from Montgomery County. Harris is included in the storm watch, but not Montgomery, last time I checked. Not that we won't get the rain, but we may not have it so bad.
I should not make light of Bill. Some places received lots of heavy rain. But we got just a couple of heavy showers. Last night, as we were getting to bed, a high wind came up for about ten minutes. This morning it was misty, as we left out for my wife's Dr. appointment. About halfway there a heavy downpour had us driving in huge puddles of water. The roads and traffic are such that once you are there, you have little choice about hitting those puddles. It was better coming home, and there was a small patch of blue seen through the clouds.
@edgarblythe,
Dodged another bullet. Glad you're unaffected and didn't have to pay the Bill..
@Ragman,
Know who benefits from this weather? The mosquitoes. Little bastards. In the back yard I have been able to distinguish more than one variety, by the looks and size of them. I am keeping the yard mowed and looking for standing water, but they thrive anyway. I made a trap for them yesterday. Two, actually. Last time I looked it was attracting flies instead of mosquitoes.
@edgarblythe,
I knew I was in for trouble here when I saw a mosquito taking off with a neighbors full-grown German Shepherd. Furthermore, they file their flight plans here in SRQ at the airport.
Oh your traps should be labeled. In block letters they should have written on them 'Mosquito' and 'Fly'. They just figured it was OK.
There are some very small ones that get to me before I know they are around. At least the big ones give you a fighting chance, by being more visible.
The sky has been overcast all day. Very dark and the air saturated. A few minutes ago, the thunder began and a heavy downpour had us closing the windows. I still hear it in the distance, but we are just getting a constant drizzle at the moment.
