Does "register" here refer to "an official list or record of names or items"?

Context:

We have long known that how things seem in te world can be misleading, and this is no less true of the mind itself. And yet many people have found that through sustained introspection, how things seem can be brought into closer register with how they are.

@oristarA,
No. It refers to "a particular part of the range" meaning of register . A good psudonym for "closer register" would be a "better focus" or "clearer picture" .

"how things seem can be brought into closer register with how they are." could be thought of as saying "how things seem can be better related to how things are" .

reg·is·ter (rĕj′ĭ-stər)
n.
1.
a. A formal or official recording of items, names, or actions.
b. A book for such entries.
c. An entry in such a record.
2. The act of registering.
3. A device that automatically records a quantity or number.
4. Computers A part of the central processing unit used as a storage location.
5. An adjustable, grill-like device through which heated or cooled air is released into a room.
6. A state of proper alignment: to be in register.

Closer to proper alignment is the correct definition.

To become aligned with the world would seem to be what the author is saying. It is not simply a case of having it in focus. Without seeing the entire context, the author may be using register as some sort of psychobabble but he is certainly talking about alignment.
