@FBM,
One probable solution,taking stock and calling it quits, had eluded me from the start, but I was adamant to soldier on.

(Sounds better?)
(Btw.Wht message do you get from this sentence?)
(The reader must be able to get what I mean)

Yes, that looks like a good final form.

The message I get is that you're retrospectively realizing that you should have been aware sooner that the prospects of your success were poor.

This unanticipated turn of event helped me meet life’s challenges head-on.

Having overcome some of my life’s struggles, I’m compelled to say that I’ve indeed outdone myself.

If it weren’t for my neediness to succeed and the uplifting words of wisdom from my circle of true friends (it was a small circle indeed!), I would not have sprung back.
