Does "resist pressure to fit the facts to the failure" mean "resist pressure so that you be practical in understanding the facts of the failure"?

Context:

Policy: Climate advisers must maintain integrity
Oliver Geden1 06 May 2015
As global negotiations fail on emissions reductions, scientific advisers need to resist pressure to fit the facts to the failure, warns Oliver Geden.

@oristarA,
"pressure" collocates infinitive forms.

From the linked story:

Quote:
Scientific advisers must resist pressures that undermine the integrity of climate science. Instead of spreading false optimism, they must stand firm and defend their intellectual independence, findings and recommendations — no matter how politically unpalatable.

The sentence you quoted is part of title (sub-heading, I suppose). Writers often use quirky expressions to get readers' attention. A more normal way of expressing that would be 'resist pressure to adjust their facts in response to the failure (to reach an accord).'
