@Olivier5,
Maybe I wasn't clear.

My positions have changed MILDLY based on experience, knowledge, and critical thinking. I have no idea how someone can go from FAR right to FAR left views on just about every major issue.

I've voted for democrats in every single national election since my first vote in 2000.

@maporsche,
Nevertheless, you illustrate the fact that people can change. It's not necessarily a bad thing.

@Olivier5,
Sure anybody CAN change. Only an idiot would claim otherwise.

The question is whether or not Lash has really changed. Or the bigger question is whether or not she's just ducking with everybody and everything we read of hers is a giant waste of time.

@maporsche,
So you accuse her of being a wolf in sheep's clothing... I love the conspirational inuendo, the slightly paranoid angle but i don't buy it.

How do we know you're not a wolf in sheep's clothing?

You don't.

But I don't have hundreds of COMPLETELY contradictory posts suggesting that I am either.

@maporsche,
It doesn't fit Lash's character one bit. She's earnest to a fault.

And she's into Bernie 1000%. That much is clear to anyone who hasn't got **** for eyes, as the french expression goes.

I was a shy girl raised by parents who differed: mother a Taft Republican (don't ask as I don't remember the details), extremely religious, not uninterested in people not like her, but no scholar/explorer in her despite being smart in high school. I am guessing she graduated in 1918. A lot of her reading was religion oriented, and even in tough times, we funded missionaries. I figure they loved each other a lessening amount of the time but not really all the way to not loving; not sure on that.

Father left med school to take care of his mother, became a hollywood cutter, an early union guy, always a democrat, engaged in world matters. We watched tv together in my youth, including some famous committee meetings, but I don't remember arguments. On the other hand, silence can be deadly, as it took me a while to learn, maybe over and over. I think he either had a secure but low toned faith, quite tested, or he was agnostic. He didn't live long enough for us to talk about all that. He talked to me a lot over my youth, as dads go, but we didn't have enough time.

So, much as a2k political threads drive me around some bends, I keep reading because I appreciate the talking. Nobody burst into insults from frustration at my house, silence got colder. When I whirl one at maxcondona (hi, max) in aggravation, it is both dumb re debate and expressive. I keep learning here.

Since it took me quite a while to write this, maybe now we are back to Bernie.

I edited, little things, but the adding in of 1918 gives a better clue to the situation.

I suppose you are right.

...however, I still really wonder how she got there after also being 1000% into:
- the Iraq war
- anti-Union
- anti-socialism
- anti-Obamacare (and anti-single payer)
- anti-political idealism
- anti-liberal
- pro-conservative Supreme Court justices

I wonder what she'll be 1000% into in another 10 years.

@ossobuco,
It's your mom who was religious? My dad was a preacher nearly the whole time I was growing up(also a post master made for some interesting times). Surrounded by big time union democrats growing up too as we had blue collar workers in our family. My parents had the kind of relationship people dream about. It is good in a way, but hard to live up to... I guess it is easy to see where I get my views, never really was a rebel.

@engineer,
I agree with you. It's stupid.

My problem is that I occasionally become unwilling to be criticized for doing what my critics have LONG been doing.

Even though I have a tidy sum of people on ignore and they have likely returned the favor, when I see someone discussing me, I take a look to see what's been said about me. Curiosity, dead cats, yadda yadda.

I see maporshe has made very good use of his time rounding up quotes from the last decade that prove I was what I said I was - and what most members here knew I was at the time.

All of this leads me to think that maporshe needs to get out more.

I have shared the process of my change in some political views, as well as the primary reasons that led to my support of Bernie Sanders more than once. I don't owe anyone here anything, but when some friends came under sharp criticism for continuing to communicate in a friendly manner with me, I decided to at least address my political changes in hopes that the back-channel harpy brigade may ease up on people I like.

So, I feel like I did my due diligence for sweet, thoughtful people. The kind of people like Cav and Dys. There are still one or two here.

Having said that. Believe me, don't believe me. I couldn't care less.

@Lash,
If they would research Hillary and Trump that well, they might actually learn the meaning of and necessity of, change.

@revelette2,
They were both irish catholic. So was I, long story, not now, by a half century re the catholic part. Cutting to the chase, my views have rambled on over a lot of time, and I'm usually listening to what people say, like a part of a giant good puzzle. I think you do that too (not to presume).

Anyway, re the politics, I have to say Oy vey.

@ossobuco,
I do, love this stuff. Glad it has toned down a bit though.

I hope this isn't an insult, but your Catholicism reminds me of Anne Rice. She is a fascinating woman even aside from her writing.

@revelette2,
My catholicism was long long ago, but I remember it and am not entirely antagonistic. I was recruited to an order that sent nuns to India, mostly as nurses, since I said one day when asked, that I hoped to study medicine; I managed to wangle out of it.

In later life, even at the time, I was not a fan of missionary mode. My problem was they were so certain I had a vocation.
I never did read Anne Rice.

I have a feeling.

Based on nothing.

That Bernie will name that beautiful veteran from Hawaii as his running mate.

Tulsi Gabbard.

I mean - Warren could really boost him, but I sort of want to smack her for dragging her feet to support him. I think he names Gabbard.

I say he doesn't go quietly without making this stand.

What do you say?

I have not thought that much about a running mate. I do think a woman such as either of the two you named, would be excellent choices.

It took about 20 minutes, hardly any time at all. I'm very good at googling.
