@ossobuco,
Bernie supporters are not anti science, osso. The ones I know of accept that climate warming is a looming disaster if not addressed.

@edgarblythe,
I just read a claim there were 40,000 people there. Unfortunately, the ones that are independents will not get to vote.

@Lash,
That's not a Bernie rally, that's the Occupy Wall Street crowd having a reunion.

@Blickers,
Their presidential candidate is Bernie Sanders, and they are on fire for his presidency. You must not have heard the speakers or have seen the crazy Bernie clothes.

Maybe Hillary can put together an event like this!

LOL.

The best analysis I've seen so far to explain the current situation in the Democrat side of the election...and politics beyond.

Why Bernie voters likely won't vote for Clinton.

I posted this in another thread, but Lash attempted to attack Clinton about her income/wealth and instead she pointed out something VERY disturbing about Sanders.

This bothers me quite a bit. How can Sanders be trusted to manage the economy when he can't even manage his personal finances??

Here it is:

Lash wrote:

Gee. Bernie earns in a year what Hillary can make with 2 speeches...to the right people. There's no denying what she's selling.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/king-clinton-paid-double-sanders-net-worth-speeches-article-1.2598017?cid=bitly

Hold on....

From the article: Bernie’s entire net worth, accumulated over his 74 years of life, is less than half of what Hillary Clinton made just in her speeches to Goldman Sachs. In 2013, Bernie’s net worth was estimated to be $330,000 — making him among the least wealthy U.S. Senators in the country.

So Bernie's resume is
Mayor for 8 years (81-89) @ average of $50,000/yr
House of Representatives for 16 years (1991-2007) @ average $143,000/yr
Senator for 8 years (2008-2016) @ average $173,000/yr

Based on these salaries, Bernie has earned over $4,500,000 in his career. He's only managed to have a net worth of $330,000 over the last 35 years of his life!!!!!

And this is a man you trust to lead our economy and make economic decisions??

If he'd saved just 10% of his income (the minimum suggested amount for retirement), he'd have over $3,700,000 in savings right now with all the compound interest. As it stands he's managed to save 0.90% of his salary.

You read this and see something completely different than I do Lash. I trust him with our country less now because of this.

Salary history can be found here: http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0854828.html

@maporsche,
Too poor to be president? You might be right in a way: In a society that worships money, a poor man has no credibility.

@Olivier5,
A man who's made $4,500,000 has managed to LOSE almost all of that.

It's not about wealth, it's about judgement and understanding.

@maporsche,
You don't necessarily LOSE money when you spend it or give it away wisely.

I can't imagine how you can even try to justify this poor decision making. There is no way you can read his personal finance management as anything but a failure. If he bought a $50,000 home when he became governor and paid off the 30 year mortgage since then he should have over a $500,000 just in one real estate holding.

A plumber who manages to pay off a mortgage and save 10 percent has been more responsible than Sanders has been.

I'm seriously shocked by this and bothered.

50K in the 80's was a lot of dough. I don't know what to make of these numbers/net worth.

@maporsche,
I'm not particularly interested in Bernie's financial smarts. That's irrelevant to my political judgment of him, so I am not really trying to justify anything. But I'm interested in the perception that a poor man cannot make it to the white house, the idea that a person has to be good at managing money in order to be politically credible in the US. I just find that interesting. It's logical of course, given the importance of money in the US culture and politics.

This site posits the same questions and provides numbers and graphs. Still seems to be a disconnect.

@Olivier5,
You realize that Sanders biggest campaign issues are related to financial management right?

His personal judgement in his own finances (which you understand are much simpler than national financial policy) seriously call into question his policies (or at least the assumptions that make up those policies).

@Olivier5,
What would you say Bernie Sanders major theme for his campaign has been if not the financial management for free universities, single payer health care run in each state (last I looked which causes headaches in and of itself) and taking money away from big corporations and banks? Each and every point involves the management of money, tax payers money.

@Olivier5,
Sanders is not a poor man; many Americans would love to have $300k in the bank, $200k/yr in income and a couple of retirement checks coming in besides social security. If he retired today, he would likely get a government retirement as well.

On the one hand Sanders has money and has enjoyed it in life. He is not hurting. On the other, he clearly has not worried about saving money. Maybe he has felt money insecurity in his past, but those of us who have usually are more anal about putting money away so we never feel it again. It seems like he has found a good balance between enjoying the fruits of his labors and ensuring he has enough to meet his needs.
