Unfortunately I have not been fortunate enough to have seen the movie you mention but I have heard tell of it here and there. It is held in high regard by certain sections of the intelligentsia I gather.
Are the male parts robotic and ,if they are,how long do they last before requiring maintenance?

The MTBF (mean time between failure) is beyond human life span. No maintenance required.
How much time can humans stand a robot without being fed up?

No! It is the wife who gets replaced by a robotic clone.
They look exactly alike however the robot wives are
programmed to obey, serve and worship their husbands.
Pretty twisted ha?

Francis, that's why I said - a speciman of both (men & robots) would be in order;) Not so ridiculous spendius.
Too futuristic?

I'm not sure. You mean I suppose behaving like men until they get fast in the filaments of the web and behaving like robots ever after.
Could robots even do eye contact, never mind saunter over nonchalantly and say "Hello-I was just saying to my friend how much your hairstyle resembles that of the Goddess Isis in the depictions in the British Museum."
Could you get a robot to do that or a million others of a similar nature?

No, a robot cannot. I always would prefer a human eye contact A robot could be useful for subordinate roles.
WOuldn't you like that?

Cal:-
It would depend on the role.A subordinate role can sometimes be so addictive to the subordinator that the subordinate gets the upper hand and---well-it can spiral endlessly from there into dizzy vortex worlds. There is a Dirk Bogarde movie about that. The Servant. It's in that famous book by Choderos de Laclos and it's in Lucien Leuwen and,of course,it's in Salammbo. It's in a lot of stuff.
What sort of roles would you like me to adjudicate on?

That would depend on the area of your expertise and skills,
wouldn't it?
Aren't we all addicted to something or someone?

Cal:-
There's a section in Proust that deals with addictive habits. It might be more complex than you think.Only might I might add.
It is a qustion of degree.A relativity issue. Some are not as addicted as others to the "something" or the "someone".And other factors also play a part.
I might be said to be addicted to going to the pub at
1.00pm CJT and returning at about 3.00 pm CJT but I'm not addicted to that sordid activity at other times.
Are you addicted to anything besides the obvious things?

No, I'm not. I consider addiction as a character weakness.
Everyone should be able to overcome addictions, unless
they're made physically ill by it (i.e. alcoholism).
Frequenting your favorite pub on a daily basis is more
of a habit than addiction, don't you think?

Cal:- Not really.
I've been off for two sodding hours.Don't ask me why because I don't know.I don't even know how I managed to get back on again.
But I have got back.
Is playing on these threads an addiction?

I wouldn't call it addiction, rather curiosity.
Sounds like you didn't have a good time for the last
two hours? At least I did some sports, despite the gloomy
weather we're having for the last four days. I need
sunshine......
It seems you're an internet novice?

Yes Cal.I'm quite novicy.Coltish even.Practically innocent of the wiles being deployed around me but not a sucker either.
Oh-I had a fairly good time considering.I am rather capable of making the best of whatever is there to be made the best of.I don't care much for organising my own interests.I find that a little like gazing at myself in a mirror, which is to say, ghastly.
I prefer the world to make the running.Bring it on so to speak. One has to do some things I know but I try to keep that to a bear minimum.
While I was off I did wonder whether I was addicted to the internet.I didn't really feel I could deny the possibility as I did feel something missing.
Do you think that slight "something missing" is the beginning of an addiction because if it is bring me more.I love it.
Don't you?

Yes I do! I see it as an alternative to TV (I rarely watch)
only better. One meets interesting people from around the
world and has some sort of written exchange almost daily with a group of members. So naturally one misses something when not online.
You probably talk to a number of people here at
a2k more frequently than to your own mother, right?

That is a trick question and I reserve my rights under the Geneva Protocol to refuse to answer.
I discovered earlier that Larry Schiller came from San Diego.
Do you know what has become of him?

I get it! You're living with your Mommy
You mean Larry Schiller, buddy to Norman Mailer? No, I don't
know what has become of him.
Bedtime for you, right? (or is this part of the Geneva Protocol too?)

Soon,yes.
I ceased to live with Mommy at quite an early age.
She was something of a nuisance with all that "spendius this" and "spendius that" and that "spendius! why don't you (thousands of things)?I started referring to her as Mrs Whydontu.
There are similarities between Larry and Spendius.
Similar styles.You know.
I ought to be asleep.
That would be best surely?
