Take it easy. I envy you being so young.

But this potluck is going to need experience and cunning which is unlikely to be available to one of such tender years as yourself. If you have as much fun as I have had acquiring those attributes you will discover that overeagerness is not a trait much appreciated by mature, intellectual ladies.

What size shoes do you take?

Don't change the subject Spendius. I'm starving (that's why I'm still awake) and I want to talk about Indian food.

Do you like Indian food?

I don't know. I've never had it. I get into repetitive habits and the same old thing has always been something I felt no need to change.

Do you think I'm a stick-in-the-mud?

I wouldn't say that. You might be just a meat and potatoes kind of guy in terms of food - but open-minded in terms of other things.

Indian food is the best though. You should try it. It's my comfort food. I love the marriage of flavors - coconut, garlic, curry, cilantro, the rice, the naan bread soaked in butter, sag aloo (spinach and potatoes). Some cultures know how to dine, you know?

And at the end they always give you lovely orange slices and these nice, hot scented wash cloths so you can refresh yourself. It always feels like an event- not just a meal. Sounds like something out of Salaambo, doesn't it?

I can't believe you live in England and don't eat Indian food. Are you more of a Sunday roast kind of guy?

Lots of places. Would start with South-East Asia.

The Middle East and that provided enough impact to last a few lifetimes.

I'm allergic to the responsibilities of home ownership, spendius.

It's a long way to walk there but it's quite short when returning.

Oh, intimate chats every time; although if you want to meet someone to chat with you need to rough it round the bar...

Is it not pointless otherwise?

Sometimes one has no choice. It depends if one has friends or acquaintances in the right place at the right time.

Staying in my home is not the same as meeting them in public places. In the latter they are generally on their best behaviour. One can't always say that about them in the home and staying.

I might consider putting one up if they were in desperate straits but they would have to be really desperate.

You would too wouldn't you?

I am not so allergic to people in the home as you. Certainly if they were in desperate straits it would be fine. I have students lodging with me and that's fine too, since they also bring in money. Smile

Do you have animals at home?
