Seems as though Manic Mame has no time for questions, thought, etc.
How are you today?
Fine, too, and all the better for conversing with a man from the gourmet heartland.
Are you a gourmet, or a gourmand?
Gourmet, not gourmand.
What about you?
The same, I hope.
And your favourite meal, if you had only one more meal to eat?
Blanquette de veau.
Is porridge any better?
Porridge is promoted for heart health; it's also cheap. I never heard it was claimed to be better than blanquette de veau.
And what do you drink with the blanquette?
Monthélie - Le clos Gauthier or Domaine Bouzerand-Dujardin.
Ever heard about those?
Monthélie is from Beaune, I think, but I can't recall having tasted it. I will however take your recommendation.
What is your favourite Burgundy?
Difficult to choose between Romanée-Conti and Montrachet.
Yours?
I don't have one.I go on the % alcohol.The rest is water and a refined,aristocratic taste.
Do you think The Penis has gone to bed early?
You should know that, spendius
So the alcohol content (%) is more important than
the taste?
Not to me, but then, I'm a wine lover. Do you think it's more important?
I do within accepted limits. The % is the main cost at ordinary levels.Taste seems a rather fleeting sensation although the warm glow of self satisfaction at appreciating a fine wine can often last a lifetime for those who have been educated in that doctrinal cul-de-sac.
What's up with beer anyway?
Beer? It's only borrowed commodity. When I drink beer,
I practically could stay in the restrooms- too much of a
diuretic for me. Plus, to me, very few beer taste good and
the hops makes you sleepy. All in all things I don't like.
Have you ever tried a good Californian Chardonay, or
Pinot Noir?
I adore both... not necessarily Californian, but Chardonnay is my choice of white... and a good pinot is something else.
Are those your choices? What do you buy?
I used to drink redwine only (Merlot or Pinot Noir) but I
have come to enjoy a good Chardonnay too, especially at
dinner time. So, I buy both and since I live in California,
it seems natural to buy our own wine from here.
Is Canadian wine good?
Some of it is very good - award-winning... we used to have such a terrible reputation!
Have you tried Farnese? (It's a Sangiovese)
Probably at some time or other if it's widely available.
Is it not easier to just say "I'm posh" and then buy best value?
Farnese is a best value
It's only $8 a bottle, but it takes like $18...
Gotta love that, eh? Do you relish a deal?
