I love aqua-aerobics and enjoyed scuba-diving - prefer snorkelling nowadays.
How about riding - do you like it?
Do you mean horse-back? I enjoy it when I get the chance.
Are you artistic at all?
It depends what you mean dev.
What do you mean?
Well, in any way you consider artistic. Do you paint or sculpt or maybe play an instrument or sing? Or are you an art historian or enthusiast? Clear as mud?
Yes.Clear as mud.My definitions exclude most people and yours include them. You have to find a definition of art which means something that prevents everybody claiming to be artists. It involves your inspiration. If your own self is the inspiration it cannot be art.You need a muse.
I would rather not go further.
Have you been to church today?
I didn't realize you wanted my definition of art.Ah, well, it was just a question. It would be quite the discussion as to what is art and what is not, wouldn't it, especially in those "gray" areas. Rather I wanted to know if you did anything artistic. Do you? Just curious.
I sing, but consider it a different art than say painting or sculpting. I myself find "true" artistry in the old masters, people with a rare talent for turning paint or stone into a thing of beauty - like the Sistine chapel ceiling or the sculptures of Roudin for instance. Then again, there are some impressionists I find rather impressive - the way they use dots of paint to comprise a picture.
Even some of the 'modern' artists do things with shapes of metal and glass that are fascinating.
Well, this is no dissertation!
Funny you should ask, have I been to church today? Not yet, I like to go in the evening. Why?
A true artist might drive bangers or face the wall of death.
Do you live in The Bible Belt Dev's?
Do you really think so?
I'm not sure, I think it's a bit south of here.
What do you call 'The Bible Belt' over there or is there such a thing there?
No, we have funny groups, mainly of American origin, Jehovas Witness and Mormons, oh yes and the Scientology of Ron Hubbard is also trying to milk the cows.
It causes a great deal of trouble in the world don't you think?
In the name of the father no doubt.
Not really but we have the Celtic fringe all up the West coast.Druids and stuff.Long white cloaks.Mysterious wailings.Strange emblems.
There's books about it.They tend to vote for our minor third party and they have done well in recent years.Their leader has a reputation for being able to put it away.
Why are your leaders so clean cut and normal? We must be catching it over here. The hot favourite for the Tory leadership election looks like Little Lord Fauntelroy. They say we catch what you have with a 5-7 year incubation period.
Do you think it's true?
Don't know, but I wanted to speak to Mathos' mention of the funny groups: Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses, Scientologists... Most mainstream groups call them cults. Don't know a whole lot about druidismother than that they seem to worship earthly things like spirits of trees, water, etc. They (the cults) believe some weird stuff if you ask me. No offense meant to any who read who are, but I calls 'em like I sees 'em.
Hey, I just a heard a British phrase from a friend who lived there a while ago "jammy sod". Are you familiar with it, or could it be a regional thing?
Yes.It means lucky.Scaley is another.Like you dev being born in America instead of in Carthage in 400BC or East Pakistan in 2005AD.
You are a jammy sod aren't you?
You betcha! And I'm gobsmackingly gorgeous too!
What's on your mind today?
You are my leetle dreeemie cyber chickeeenie.
Did you have a good time with your good friend after "brench"?
*That's posh for brunch. The 'u' like in tent. That's how our gracious Queen would say it.
PS to dev.
I think "jammy" derives from it being considered lucky in the days of working class want to have jam on your bread. When scaly or scaley is used it is "Non U" to employ "sod".Another word is employed which is banned on A2K I gather despite being quite common in country districts.
Can you remember the question?
You mean whether or not I had a good time with my friend after brunch? Yes, I did. She's a friend I've known for a while, but have gotten to know better recently. She's a SAHM (stay-at-home-mom) who gets a bit lonely while her kids are at school. She spends time with me while I work, and sometimes I go to her house and help out. I'm a terriffic orgnanizer and have a natural ear for counseling, so I feel like we kind of help each other out.
Interesting about "jammy sod" and pronunciations! Wish I could check Ye Olde England for myself - you remember I have a travelling wanderlust!
Well! I can't seem to think of an interesting question!...Hmmmm....
Do you have an old friends or school chums you still keep up with? How long has your 'oldest' friendship lasted?
LOL about the "leetle dreeemie cyber chickeeenie!
For as long as I remember. We are cousins and we shared a playpen. He's a bit straight laced though and was often telling me off for my libertine ways.
Our interest in sport and betting and boozing is the cement.
Have you read Daddy's Gone A Hunting by Penelope Gilliat who was CP Snow's wife?(You reminded me of that. It's all about what SAHMs get up to during the long boring hours when the men have gone off to work.)
No, I haven't. Recommended reading then?
It's nice to have old friends that go way back. The one who came over yesterday happens to be my best friend's (since 13) sister-in-law.
Have you ever won a significant sum in betting?
I only played poker once and won a few dollars, so nothing too significant. Not much of a gambler...no real interest in it... so I never played again.
Is there ever going to be an end to this long rainy autumn?
Not what I would call significant but I once came very close to winning £1.2 million with a series of bets on the oil price.I'm glad I didn't though. It was silly really.I started of with a small bet and played up my winnings.I didn't think you lot would rescue Kuwait. When you did I lost the lot apart from a small profit I took early doors(that's an English betting expression for the first half of a race or a match).I started with a grand-won about 3-bet that-won another 3-took 2 grand profit and then went with their own money-**** or bust as we say.But I'm not really a serious gambler.I've known a few though. One of them owned a horse which won a mud slog at York by 1/2 a length with over 20 runners which were spread right across the finish line. The jockey said it won "cosily" but he damn near gave us all a heart attack.8-1 it was.Good day.
Do you ever go racing?
