You can say anything you wish.If it is illegal they will lock you up.If it isn't they won't.

Is that clear?

It is an interesting book but things have moved on since it was written.Every sociologist will have read it.It is bit seminal (Ahem!).

Are you going to be lunchtime boozing again?

Okay - I'll stop now.

So - are you in highschool?

No, no booze today - they got my adrenaline going for me- actually feeling quite exhilerated - so don't need any booze.

How about you?

No, I don't, but I want to back track a bit if I may.
spendius you wrote

Familiarity with scenery, roads, faces, characters, histories, truth. That sort of thing.Just feeling one belongs.Knowing everybody. One hardly ever thinks about it except when somebody brings it up.Mindless one might say.Respectful of order.A bit reactionary actually.

These things are all important to you individually,
to me they are not. The feeling to belong is exactly where
your family is, and I don't mean parents, we've surpassed
that stage in life, when we became adults and started our
own family. I don't need to know everybody in my town
to feel secure, on the contrary, I loathe a certain feeling of
independence, being invisible to most.

You have never experienced the other side (living abroad), yet you are judgemental about it, and think to know that
one must be unhappy and rely on media and other aspects
to continue living the pitiful life, one only can live abroad
or away from its roots.

Clearly your view is one sided and although I do value
your opinion, you have not made this experience yourself,
like some of us have and can give you both sides more
objectively. aiden is living abroad, I do, and Francis has
too, (I assume).

Don't you agree, that you can bring your own view to this
matter, but cannot make a statement for better luck of
experience?

No, not at all really - except for those quizzes you were talking about - you hate them - I love them.

Oh wait - now will I be a nerd who eats lunch, has sex with highschoolers, loves music, climbs mountains, and loves quizzes....? Should I even let one more tiny little word slip out of my mouth? Isn't it all just ammunition for some people?
What do you think?

No problem aiden, I just wanted to comment on one post
made earlier, and due to my delayed time zone, I'm always
behind Wink

Remember, what my signature line reads? Once you've
lost your reputation, you can live freely any way you want to.
So, don't be bothered what others think of you, they're not
important.

I'm neither aiden. I couldn't give up men for the life of me.

Sometimes trouble (men), but still worth it, right?

I fear I am being misunderstood. Not that it bothers me.

There is a vast literature about aspects of high social and geographical mobility. There is research done on it.It all points in the same direction.
Modern living is out of alignment with the state of the physical body as it has arrived from evolution. This is NOT a criticism.
The situation we are in is a necessary one.I have no judgement to make about it.
The main point is that media is an urban phenomena. As such it presents an urban view and it is also selling things which the body not only does not need but are actually harmful. The body tells one all one needs to know about travel.Mine does at least. When the mind, and it must have been conditioned to do this,over-rides the body's message there are potential problems. Some cope with those better than others.

I can't see what there is to argue about. It would look like those who have travelled and uprooted wish to stifle the views of those who are content to stay close to their roots which,I agree is backward, old fashioned and reactionary. But,and it is a big BUT,young people may be reading this and being influenced. It is not a private conversation.
Perhaps if people refrained from extolling the superiority and the virtues of their particular way of life and simply played the word games we wouldn't get into this sort of dispute.
And I would like to remind you all that I went nowhere near the really telling aspects of these matters.I treated it exceedingly superficially. And I mean exceedingly.

Would you care to read the piece in question as carefully as I composed it?It took me an hour.

I have read it carefully spendius, although it didn't take me an hour to read. First, I don't think we are actually in a position to manipulate young people who happen to read this thread
by accident, never mind influencing them.

I of course shall refrain from extolling my superiority and
virtues of my particular way of life and simply play this
question and answer game.

Now, how is the weather today?

Changing the subject, Jane?

The weather here is about as perfect as it gets for Michigan, 'comfortable' humidity level, sunny, warm (80-ish)...

How are things where you are?

Francis, the weather is always a safe haven to talk about.
devriesj, perfect as usual, although this morning there is
still a marine layer over the coastal strip here, and probably
72 F.

No more controversial questions, right? Wink

Skip the holler - my sister is a lot like me - she don't do two-faced.

I'm sorry, aidan, I don't quite get your meaning. Explain?
