You can't expect a serious answer to that on here.

If you go back to 1441473 and be honest with yourself you might notice that "choose not to learn or absorb" is totally subjective because it doesn't specify the "what".There is a big difference between choosing not to learn what you approve of and choosing not to learn full stop.I don't even think we can choose not to learn. It is the same with "uniformed".In fact every operative word in the first paragraph is subjective and relies for its credibility on having an audience of like minded people.Which you don't have. You may easily have polite people just letting it go.I don't know what you mean by "meaningless activity".I don't think most psychologists would recognise that expression.

In the second paragraph there is an implied claim to be recognising subtleties but they are the subtleties of your choosing. What subtleties in the game of cricket do you recognise and there are legions of them.Or racehorse breeding.Or nuclear reactions.Or election winning strategies. To name but four.

Do you view things from both sides? How about all possible sides?

Laughing Okay, Mr. Smarty-pants Spendius - you got me. I was vague and non-specific. Does that make me dense or dumb or dense and dumb?

Bur I am paying attention to some things - trying to widen my horizons and see things from all sides. Did you know that I am aware that the cricket match between England and Australia resulted in a draw?
Are you shocked and surprised that I know that?

I don't get shocked or surprised.

If all you know about that match is the result then from a cricket lover's perspective you are all the things you suggest you might be.
This was a match where two new rules became applicable.Could you explain what they were and how they might affect future evolutions in the captain's policies. And that's pretty easy really as far as subtleties go.

Have you the Sky Sports facilities?

I don't even have a tv! My son's friend told me - but I did show an interest and actually ask first.

Is it unreasonable to expect someone to learn a sport in such a small amount of time? Don't you agree it takes years of watching to learn the nuances and subtleties of strategic sports with complicated rules as have cricket and baseball?

Yes.I agree with that.

The idea was not really to do with cricket. It was to do with a certain set of values which are strongly associated with cricket.

A senior minister once gave out that a "cricket test" should be applied to immigrants and,if you cast your mind back,Steve 4000 referred to that.

It must be very difficult adjusting to an alien culture and I suggested a study of cricket as a short cut or,let's say,a fairly efficient method.I had your kids in mind too who may spend the rest of their lives here. One of the main reasons I suggested cricket was that it is all on television and the commentators are expert, intelligent men from whom a young man of about 17 might learn more than from all the teachers at school put together not least about subtlety itself. You even went so far as to use the word "scary" relating partially to that notion.

But if you have no TV what can I say?

Hell no! They stop every two seconds for "time out" and
then they either have a long discussion or a commercial
brake is in order. Drives me nuts! Baseball is no option
either, as it is utterly boring. Actually, I don't like to watch
any sports....

Do you and if yes, which ones?

Yes, but I don't know all of the rules. A good friend of mine is nuts about it. Actually, I'm reading 'Fever Pitch' by Nick Hornby at the moment, so I should actually learn the rules at some point.

Do you like Aussie Rules footy?

I used to play rugby and boxed, played a little soccer.
Played cricket, but cannot abide watching it, it's a little like watching cement dry.
I do a bit of coaching in boxing. It's a good sport for lads.

I try and keep fit, do you Devs?

I don't like to plan things.... As we say: "Other things happen,
while you're making plans". I'm rather spontaneous.

Nice and warm today!

Moved sixteen tone of soil by barrow.
That was a good work out!

In the gym, there is a tendency to socialise.

Do you socialise in the gym?
