I would say you do. (Eastern time, myself)
Is there anything in particular that you're trying to decide on your enthusiasm about?

Oh, I get it now! I believe it has to do with the number of posts you've made.

I've been here over a year (with some time off with a bad computer last winter.) Been here longer than some, not as long as others. I 'feel' like I really enjoy a2k & everybody on it.

How about you - like it so far, 'enthusiast'?

I'm certainly enthusiastic today; I've made. . .maybe 25 posts, probably more. That's a high score for me. Most people I've encountered are nice, but I did come across some troublemakers today. You take the good with the bad, though.

How did you first come across this site?

Wasn't I looking for an answer to a trivia question and stuck around because I liked it?

(That's why my nickname is so lame. If I knew I was going to like it here I would have come up with something a bit more clever.)

No, I like talking about names Laughing .

I named my daughter Olivia (bringer of Peace) but I also love Maria and Hope for girls.

I named my son Joseph (Dreamer of Dreams) - that's my all-time favorite boy's name.

When it comes to so terrible disasters I even can not find the words to express my feelings.

British people have all my sympathies.

What do you think about the people who have done this?

Just literally unable to comprehend the hate that must be in their souls and hearts.

Are there things you find simply unfathomable?

Yes - dumbness...

What's, in your view, the difference between dumbness and denseness?

Interesting question... in one way I think dumbness implies a choice not to learn or absorb - a personality trait in a person that might cause them to choose to remain uninformed - maybe due to laziness or lack of diligence, or an unfortunate tendency to focus their attention on petty or meaningless activities.

Denseness seems more latently and immovably a part of a person's personality-something they don't choose - and have no control over. A lack of ability to perceive subtleties, or view things from both sides - akin to stubborness or rigidity.

What's your take on it?

The three sub-headings in Roget for "dumb" are-
ignorant,unintelligent and voiceless.

For dense there are 9-
firm set,multitudinous,unyielding,thick,closed,tactual,ignorant,unintelligent and dense.

If the two that are common are checked further-
under ignorant dumb and dense are next to each other and under unintelligent dense follows stupid and obtuse and is seperated from dumb by crass, gross, heavy, sottish, stolid, bovine,Boeotian, blockish, oafish, doltish and owlish and followed by dim and dimwitted.

That's the official position.

That is not always the correct procedure. For clarity in language the official position is much more reliable.Coming up with one's own definitions leads to lollopings of subjectivity and much misunderstanding.

Is that pedantic?

Not necessarily - but if one's definition are correct - than it works out okay - right?

Would you say you know more dumb or more dense people?

Now I'm the dense or dumb one - what meanings and activities are you referring to? In terms of activities what I mean is that in our society today alot of people just engage in really passive activities that tend to dumb us all down as a people. Mathos and I have talked about this before- activities such as tv watching - as well as the whole lack of reading thing that's happening among the kids, etc, a real decrease in attention span. Maybe I am just more aware of it because I taught highschool and saw its effects first hand everyday. Really pretty scary.

But what meanings are you referring to?
