Does sound great. Unfortunately my talents don't include writing - like the rest of my family.
What are you doing for fun today?
Nothing. I have this summer cold and took a dose of this "Night Nurse" stuff - equivalent to Nyquil in the US - but it knocked me totally out. I have to go see Ladies in Lavender with a friend of mine - and I can barely hold my head up - hope I don't fall asleep in the middle of it. Anyway - enjoy the fireworks for me- none here - we'll have to wait for Guy Fawkes day I guess.
Does your town put on big firework displays for any holidays you may celebrate depending on what country you live in?
Yes. It seems any little holiday is a good excuse for fireworks. The ballpark for our minor league baseball team has them every Satuday nite.
(Sorry to hear you're ill

)
What is Guy Fawkes day?
Devvie - I'm so out of it - I'll probably get it all wrong - but I'll give you the gist. In l605, this guy named Guy Fawkes and a bunch of conspirators had this scheme to blow up Parliament but they were caught and executed before they could do so. So every year they celebrate successfully averting this close call with fire works and they burn a figure (which is supposed to be Guy Fawkes) in effigy. It's in November and in our little village they built a big bonfire and had hamburgers and fireworks and it was quite a fun night.
Are you a patriotic person?
(your history is fine! But it is also an older festival, the Beltane fire, which is lit in the autumn to keep the sun alive during winter)
Not really 'my country right or wrong', but the more other countries I see and experience, the more I think we have a lot of things right in Britain. We're too controlled and too crowded but hey! nowhere's perfect.
What would you do if you could choose a college course and indulge yourself in it for 3 years?
Anthropology probably.
What are you looking forward to?
The unreachable star...
Do you like fireworks?
short-term going to Syria with my sons, long-term buying a castle in Eastern Europe and starting a centre for excellent English there.
What are you looking forward to?
Yes I like fireworks and I am looking forward to a visit
from a friend.
Are castles in Eastern Europe up for sale?
There are a few on the Net - only 1 million!
Do you own a house/apartment?
I own my house. Hm, 1 million Euro for a castle is not
too bad, if it is in good shape, that is.
Would you consider moving to another country?
Not for a picosecond.
How's your feet today?
They're crinkled now, as I've been too long in the pool.
Why not explore the world?
Well-the best you can hope for is about 0.01% which is hardly exploring the world. The little ducks are better than that.I've been around a bit but it all looks roughly the same to me.There are many interesting things right here which I don't know the first thing about.
What is it about travel that excites you?
The utter beauty of nature. Sometimes it is so overwhelming
beautiful, that it humbles you. If it weren't for travel I wouldn't be where I am today - paradise.
No interest in nature?
It stuns me.But in travel it is just a blur.
Why would you think a non traveller wouldn't love nature?
I would think a true nature lover would like to explore
more of it.
Not so?
(lunch and BBQ now....)
Do you mean going in closer or just flying over more of it?There is a difference.
What's BBQ?(not the bolstered bottom question I hope)
No, not just flying over it, exploring nature, getting to see
new sights. For example: California is beautiful with its
coast line and beaches, but driving to Arizona to see the
Grand Canyon is an entire new experience and equaly
beautiful, if not more.
BBQ is short for barbecue on the grill.
Do you like to BBQ?
I do like to barbecue - especially swordfish-but really almost anything else as well. Being from Texas, and having been raised by two Texans who love to cook and eat outside (don't worry they were my parents - just realized that sounded like I was raised by these two strange Texans ) - it's almost like barbecuing is in my blood. I'll put barbecue sauce on anything.
Did you know I know someone here who barbecues bananas? He explained to me that you split the skin, put little bits of chocolate and something else - can't think of it right now- in wih the banana - wrap it in foil and lay it on the coals until the chocolate melts. I'll ask him what the other ingredient is. Have you ever tried this? Does it sound appealing to you? Anyone else like to talk about food? Should we start swapping recipes on the questions thread?
