Context:
His deep work on General Relativity has been a major factor in our understanding of black holes. His development of Twistor Theory has produced a beautiful and productive approach to the classical equations of mathematical physics. His tilings of the plane underlie the newly discovered quasi-crystals.[33]

@oristarA,
This really needs more context for me to really know what this is talking about.

But, I can infer a couple of things.

1) A "plane " is a mathematical term for a two-dimensional flat surface.

2) Tiling is another mathematical term for placing two dimensional shapes on a plane so that there is no space between them. The allusion is to putting tiles on a floor.

@maxdancona,
Full context is to be found in wiki Roger Penrose entry.
I doubt that will help.

All of that is found with one plane telescopes, their only way to detect anything in space. Does that sound logical?

But I don't know what is " plane telescopes". Explain a bit?

The phrase seems to be "one-plane telescopes", but some specialist knowledge would be needed to explain that.

I suppose you guys missed Penrose's point.

Tiling the plane:

Same patterns are found in quasi-crystals.
