"any ess for rod"? "a se a nt me se"? What do they mean?

THE revelation by a former White House intern that she had a secret affair with President John F Kennedy hasn't come as a real surprise to those who knew him. a se a nt me se Mimi Alford waited 50 years to reveal she was the Irish-American leader's lover for 18 months in the early 1960s.

Now almost 70 years old, she has broken her silence to write a book about how JFK seduced her when she was 19 years old and working in the White House press office. veal er's 60s. has bout s 19 ouse Her claims made in the book Once Upon a Secret: My Affair With President John F Kennedy And Its Aftermath merely confirms what has long been suspected by biographers of the United States' most-loved leader. Once dent math been nited Kennedy's lust for women was well w well known and Alford was just one of the many women who were notches on the presidential bedpost. the the While more than half-a-dozen women, including from Hollywood stars to a gangster's moll, were among his mistresses there are thought to have been dozens more. men, to a his have Flight attendants, secretaries, wives of his political fundraisers and even prostitutes - no woman was safe when JFK was on the prowl for sex. ves ven hen By far the most famous of his many conquests was the screen goddess Marilyn Monroe. any ess for rod.

The blonde bombshell, famous for her hour-glass figure, was first introduced to JFK by actor Peter Lawford. As part of Hollywood's "Rat Pack", a hard-drinking group of actors led by Frank Sinatra, Lawford had easy access to some of the most beautiful women, a by ss en in the world. It was in February 1962 62 that JFK and Monroe met for the first time at a dinner thrown by Lawford in Los Angeles. rst in At the end of the evening Kennedy got Monroe's phone number and within a month they were lovers. edy thtels arteral They would meet at New York hotels and in a loft above the Justice Department office of then Attorney General Robert F Kennedy, the President's brother.

nt's The pair had a torrid affair lasting for several months and culminating with Monroe's appearance at the benefit night in New York where she performed her sexy rendition of Happy Birthday Mr President. g for with night her y Mr Three months after the event Monroe was dead from an accidental drug overdose. nroe drug By that time she had already been dumped by Kennedy after he found a new mistress and Monroe was said to have been sleeping with his younger been nd a brother Bobby.

Friends of the doomed actress said Kennedy's rejection of her played a part in the downward spiral of depression that led to her death from a cocktail of drugs.

But for Kennedy, who had a voracious appetite for sex, Monroe was merely another conquest.

During his three years as President from 1961 to 1963, he chased women like a man possessed and his numerous affairs were covered up by the Secret Service. If Monroe was his most famous lover then dark-haired Judith Exner was by far the most controversial.

She became Kennedy's lover in 1960 and the President's wife Jackie was reported to know all about the affair.

While sleeping with JFK Exner also began an affair with Mafia mobster Sam Giancana.

Despite FBI chief J Edgar Hoover's battle against the Mafia and organised crime, Kennedy was said to have known he was sharing his mistress with the mob boss. Exner, who died aged 65 in 1999, claimed she terminated a child by Kennedy a year before he was assassinated in Texas.

Kennedy conducted all of his affairs under the nose of his wife who he had married in 1954.

She is said to have put up with the constant cheating as divorce would have wrecked his presidency.

All the affairs took place when he was visits to New York and Los Angeles or when Jackie was away from the White House. When he was elected President, one of his top aides privately predicted: "This Administration is going to do for sex what the last one did for golf."

Not only was he the most powerful man in the world but he also had charm and charisma. He is said to have had sex with actress Angie Dickenson in the White House just hours before his inauguration ceremony as President in 1961.

Another conquest was said to be actress and stripper Blaze Starr.

During the Cuban Missile Crisis, he is reported to have said to her: "Boy, if Fidel Castro had something like you he would think more about making love, and less about making war."

Blonde Kim Novak was another of his mistresses and he would meet her at a suite he kept on the eighth floor of the Mayflower Hotel in Washington DC.

Even iconic actress and singer Marlene Dietrich was said to have slept with Kennedy and he was also rumoured to have been involved with suspected German spy Inga Arvad who was under surveillance by the FBI. While Kennedy loved the glamorous women of Hollywood he also turned his attention to any pretty face that took his fancy.

Former Secret Service agent Robert Lutz told author Ronald Kessler about a stunning Swedish Pan Am flight attendant who was on the press plane following the President on Air Force One.

When Lutz told colleagues he was going to ask her out on a date he was warned: "She's part of the President's private stock." Another mistress was Washington socialite Mary Pinochet Meyer who was known for her stunning figure. He propositioned her during a dinner at the White House and they were said to have had more than 30 trysts.

At the same time he was sleeping with his wife's press secr etary Pamela Turnure.

Two other White House secretaries, Priscilla Wear and Jill Cowen, also ended up in his bed.

They were known as "Fiddle" and "Faddle".

Former JFK bodyguard Larry Newman said of them: "They didn't do much work."

Just like Monroe, they were extremely busty - just the sort of woman preferred by Kennedy for his extra-marital affairs.

Kennedy was said to be an extremely skilled lover with those women admitting to sleeping with the President not complaining about his performance between the sheets.

He is said to have indulged in threesomes using his Secret Service details to find him willing partners. If none were available prostitutes would be hired and paid off.

Such was the power of the President that details of the liaisons never leaked out or were reported by the press.

FBI director J Edgar Hoover knew all about the affairs and built up a substantial dossier on the President. Many of the files detailing JFK's extraordinary love life were destroyed after Hoover's death in 1977 while others were locked away never to be seen.

Hoover would have known about Mimi Alford, the latest mistress to come forward, from notes taken by the Secret Service.

Alford tells in her book how Kennedy was the first man she had slept with and during their 18-month affair always called him Mr President. Their relationship ended a week before Kennedy was shot dead in Dallas in November 1963.

She writes in the book that Kennedy wanted to continue the affair but she felt too much guilt as she was about to be married.

Alford confessed the affair to her husband back in 1963 but he told he never to speak about it for fear of what might happen to them.

Next year will of course be the 50th anniversary of JFK's death.

Should another mistress decide to go public with details of her affair with the 35th President of the United States it will not come as any real surprise given his track record.

My guess is that the article was optically scanned, and the scanner missed some letters.
