Hi English teachers,
I am not sure if I have used the word "prompt" appropriately for the following sentence, please advise. Thanks a lot in advance.
The feedback of the widget is fine because it prompts us the instruction after we have clicked it.

The feedback of the widget is fine because it prompts the required instruction after clicking.

That might be better.
Another opinion will be along soon, no doubt.

@Loh Jane,
McTag is right, and the use of the word 'prompts' is correct.

The OP has not used the word "prompt" appropriately. In computer terminology, when a program or application prompts the user, it is asking (and waiting) for input or action, e.g. "Click OK to delete this file", "Please enter your password" etc. A prompt asks for, and precedes an action. Feedback happens after an action. It is not clear what the OP is describing.

Good point. I had assumed the OP meant "prompt" in its accepted sense, but that is not clear from the question.

In programming, a prompt is presented to the user when action (e.g. a choice or conformation) is required. What the user gets after an action has taken place might be called a notification, message or confirmation.

Prompt: Do you want to delete this file?
--- action ---
Notification: The file was deleted successfully.
