They remind me of the Graeae from Greek mythology, but instead of having one eye to share between them, they have the one brain cell.

@neptuneblue,
He did the right thing. No govt should be allowed to deny a business the right to be a business just because you don't like what the owners of the company believe in or the political donations they make.

The company has nothing to do with the owners political views, instead the left wants to use it's govt power to prevent them from making money. Sounds like they are violating the owners 1st Amendment rights. Good for Texas for protecting business.

@Baldimo,
That argument kinda went out with the public accomodations laws of the 60s. If you serve the public you shouldn't discriminate. religious right fels fre to boycott a business when they disagree with it (e.g. the Christmas boycotts when the business said hapy holidays) but they get bent out of shape when someone skewers them for it).

Which argument is that?

Can you show proof of Chick-fil-a discriminating against anyone? No you can't because it hasn't happened.

There is a major difference between private citizens boycotting a business and the govt discriminating against a business because of what their an owners personal beliefs are.

Chick-fil-A's history of workplace discrimination
By Sue Sturgis August 2, 2012

In the debate raging over Chick-fil-A's position on gay rights, some defenders of the Georgia-based fast-food chain have claimed that despite Chief Operating Officer Dan Cathy's statements against same-sex marriage and the company's generous funding of anti-gay groups, the outspokenly Christian corporation doesn't discriminate against workers.

But in fact, the company has been sued at least a dozen times for employment discrimination, according to Forbes magazine.

One of the cases involved Aziz Latif, a former Chick-fil-A restaurant manager in Houston, who sued the company in 2002 because he was fired a day after refusing to participate in a group prayer to Jesus Christ at a company training program. Latif is a Muslim. The suit was settled, but the terms were not disclosed, Forbes reported.

More recently, a former employee of a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Georgia sued the company for wrongful termination, alleging she and other women employees were victims of gender discrimination.

According to the lawsuit filed under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, Brenda Honeycutt began working at a Chick-fil-A in Duluth, Ga. 1991 and was promoted to a general manager in 1997. But Jeff Howard, the restaurant's owner and operator, "routinely made comments to [Honeycutt] suggesting that as a mother she should stay home with her children."

In April 2011, Howard hired a man named Bill Green as a general manager and began holding management meetings with him and two other male managers but excluded Honeycutt. In late June, Howard fired Honeycutt, telling her and other employees that he did so so she could be a stay-at-home mother.

The lawsuit alleges a pattern of discrimination against female employees at the Duluth, Ga. restaurant. A female kitchen manager was demoted after she became a mother and was later fired and replaced by a man. Four other women were also demoted, allegedly without just cause.

Honeycutt first took her complaint of gender discrimination to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, which investigated and granted her a notice of right to sue. Honeycutt is seeking to get her job back as well as lost wages and compensation for humiliation, emotional distress and other damages.

Another lawsuit filed earlier this year against a California Chick-fil-A claims that four former employees of the restaurant were sexually harassed by their boss -- and when they took their complaints to the owner, they were first ignored, then fired, then reported to immigration authorities in an attempt to have them deported.

Forbes noted that Chick-fil-A might face more discrimination lawsuits if it didn't screen potential hires and operators so rigorously, with many job candidates going through a yearlong vetting process with dozens of interviews that can last as long as five hours. The parent company also asks people who apply for operator licenses to disclose their marital status, number of dependents, and involvement in community, civic, social, church and professional organizations.

Federal law does not prohibit employers from asking potential hires questions about religion and marital status during interviews, and companies have even wider latitude in approving franchisees.

Since Cathy made his anti-gay marriage remarks last month, the chain's image with consumers has taken a hit. According to YouGuv's BrandIndex, the company's overall ratings among fast food eaters has dropped to its lowest levels in two years:

On July 16th, the day the Baptist Press published its Dan Cathy interview, Chick-Fil-A's Index score was 65, a very substantial 19 points above the Top National QSR Sector average score that day of 46.

Four days later, Chick-Fil-A had fallen to 47 score, three points below the Top National QSR Sector average score of 50. This past Wednesday, Chick-Fil-A had a 39 score compared to the Top National QSR Sector average score of 43.

In its home base of the South, Chick-fil-A's BrandIndex dropped from 80 on July 16 to 44 last week. Its biggest drop took place in the Northeast, where it fell from 76 to 35. And while its score in the Midwest initially jumped from 45 on July 16 to 70 two days later, it has since fallen back to 45.

@neptuneblue,
I fail to see any mention of them discriminating against LGBT anyone. These are pretty common complaints for just about any company. We are specifically talking about the owner and his personal beliefs. Also this article is from 2012, when the media started their campaign against Chich-fil-a because of the owners personal belief.

8 years later, and Chich-fil-a is one of the best food chains in the US. Market share is up and the only complain from the left is their owners don't believe what they believe.

Texas was correct to pass this law.

@MontereyJack,
It did read it, it was a weak article from 2012. Chich-fil-a is actually one of the best business's in the US. My 17 year old sister has been working at one for the last year and loves it there. Once again, the only reason the left doesn't like them is because of the personal beliefs of the owners, their business model is solid and expanding across the US.

Yes.

I saw in the mirror that I don't run around falsely accusing everyone of being a racist.

I guess that means I'm not a progressive.

Log Cabin Republicans executive director latest to resign in protest
CNN Digital Expansion 2016
By S.E. Cupp

Updated 4:16 PM ET, Tue August 27, 2019

(CNN)Jerri Ann Henry, the first woman to be named executive director of the Log Cabin Republicans, is resigning after less than a year in her post.

"This is a long time coming," Henry told CNN in an exclusive interview. "The history and legacy of this organization is so rich. I wish we were able to find a way forward, but I think leaving the organization is best for all of us."

The Washington Blade was first to report on Henry's resignation.

In a statement to CNN, Charles Moran, a spokesperson for the Log Cabin Republicans, said Henry resigned on Monday and thanked her for her service to the group.

"The final date of her employment is undetermined at this time," Moran said in an email. "The Board's Executive Committee will proceed with an orderly transition to ensure nothing falls through the cracks. We thank her for her service to our organization and wish her well in the next chapter of her career."

Henry's resignation is the latest in a long line of defections over the past few months, including Robert Turner, Jordan Evans, Rachel Hoff, Jennifer Horn, Eli Lehrer, Rich Tafel and Sarah Longwell.

The group, which claims to be "the nation's largest Republican organization dedicated to representing LGBT conservatives and allies," published an op-ed in the Washington Post last week endorsing President Donald Trump, which sparked Turner, Horn and Evans' departures.

Horn, a longtime Republican operative, said of her resignation from the organization's board, that she could no longer represent a group who endorsed another four years of the Trump administration and his targeting of gay and minority communities.

"It's not just the LGBTQ community this President targets. When we look at immigrants, people -- anyone that he thinks he can somehow use to anger his base -- he doesn't care if he has to divide on racial lines, on ethnic lines, on educational lines," Horn told MSNBC. "He will divide and damage and destroy this country in any manner he thinks he needs to advance his own political power."

Henry, a lesbian Republican activist who fought for marriage equality as head of Young Conservatives for the Freedom to Marry, however, says her resignation wasn't just about the Trump endorsement. Instead, she has been frustrated with the group has been going as of late, a direction she described as becoming more like a social club that serves as a chapter of the Republican National Committee or Young Republicans.

"Log Cabin was once a civil rights organization with conservative principles," Henry said. "That's why I joined on. Now it's mostly about happy hours."

"They weren't involved in the marriage fight at all," Henry said. "When the Equality Act passed, and no one (from Log Cabin Republicans) said anything, I don't know if I was relieved -- because of what they might have said -- or disappointed that none of our chapter heads even noticed."

When asked if she thinks the group can survive, she said, "I'm not sure. My recommendation would be to shut it down, or just become the YR's of the gay community -- Republicans who just happen to be gay."

@neptuneblue,
Thank you for that, neptuneblue.

There was a time when I kept better track of the LCR. Hadn't known they were still supporting Trump. How any person supports him now, is beyond me and beyond comprehension when it comes from people who used to be solidly on the path of gaining rights for the LGBTQIA world community.

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2019/8/26/1881469/-Susan-Collins-has-a-sad-that-people-have-finally-seen-through-her-act

Excerpt: She's just so misunderstood! Poor, poor Susan Collins. If only people would just listen to the meaningless words that come out of her mouth and not pay attention to her actions. But, no, the mean voters in Maine and all the national groups she turned her back on are insisting on accountability. She's positively knitting her brow over it.
