More tariffs ahead as Trump admits agriculture deal with China never really existed
https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2019/8/1/1875961/-More-tariffs-ahead-as-Trump-admits-agriculture-deal-with-China-never-really-existed

That giant cliff in Thursday’s stock market report comes down to one thing—one big thing. Donald Trump has admitted that his negotiations with China have gone nowhere, his promised deal in which China was going to buy more U.S. farm products never existed, and in a month he plans to increase the tariffs on China to cover another $300 billion worth of goods.

To repeat, Trump’s crack negotiations, the negotiations which he has claimed were on the brink of success over and over, have generated:

No trade deal.
No agriculture deal.
No restriction on the production of opioids.
Not only is the stock market sharply down, but prices for soybeans, which had risen sharply in May after Trump promised China was about to make a record purchase, are on their way back to the basement. That means that farmers aren’t just set to lose more money on this year’s crops, they’re also losing on anything they were holding in reserve for those promised sales. At this point, both agricultural products and futures are down across the board. And this in a year when farmers are facing record foreclosures and record floods.

Meanwhile, former Trump economic adviser Gary Cohn admits that the tariffs are doing more harm to the U.S. than to China. Speaking to The Independent, Cohn stated that he didn’t really think the tariffs are impacting the Chinese economy. But they are having a “dramatic impact” on American manufacturing.

Comment:
In other words, Trump's tariffs deal with China was another big fat lie...

@oralloy,
The fact is that you and republicans have blood on your hands.

No one's rights are being protected and giving republican white nationalists automatic rifles is an unregulated militia.

Another fact is that reckless republican policies have weakened the second amendment.

Another fact is that you are a half-wit idiot.

And the deaths of innocent Americans don't frustrate righties?

Lindsey Graham in 1998: Ignoring Subpoenas Impeachable
https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/lindsey-graham-in-1998-ignoring-subpoenas-impeachable/ar-BBWkCp1

"You don’t even have to be convicted of a crime to lose your job in this constitutional Republic," Graham says in a video from 1999. "Impeachment is not about punishment. Impeachment is about cleansing the office. Impeachment is about restoring honor and integrity to the office"

Comment:
But but but, being a republican is about taking money from a foreign government to look the other way...

Preventing the left from violating our civil liberties for fun does not harm anyone other than the leftists who were denied their fun.

Mr. Trump is protecting our civil liberties.

Is someone giving away automatic rifles? Can a conservative Democrat get in on this?

@oralloy,
250 MASS SHOOTINGS IN 215 DAYS THIS YEAR, according to the Gun Violence Archive, 4 or more people shot or killed in each. 522 KILLED, 2040 INJURED. Most people with a shred of morality find that ust plain wrong, which is why most people want stiffer gun control. Most people think there's something wrong with our country's gun culture. Most people find the carnage unacceptable, but oralloy's reaction is only to spare him having to hear "whining about the poor little victims".

Sunday is for many a day of rest and reflection. But this Sunday, this bloody Sunday, we awaken to a day of mourning and outrage.

It is hard to say anything new on the subject of gun violence and the twin evil of racism and white supremacism which seems to be fueling a lot of the carnage.

We know that no other nation, not torn by war, sees these levels of mass shootings. Not even close. Not even in the same universe.

We know the emptiness of the phrase "thoughts and prayers."

We know that politicians who have the responsibility to act to protect American lives have been bought and are beholden to the gun lobby.

We know weapons of war are not for hunting.

We know words of hate can inspire actions of hate.

We have seen cowardice when we need leadership.

We have been warned about the growing threat of homegrown white nationalism.

We can shout, "when will it be enough? How many more will have to die?" But we know we've shouted that many, many, many times before.

We know all these things, and so many more...

With the amount of assault weapons and high volume magazines already out in American society, there will be no easy solutions to this public health emergency. With a president who cheers violence against his political rivals and those he sees as "others," we know the fires fanned by dangerous rhetoric are likely to continue to burn.

But while Washington continues to be trapped by normalizing a deadly status quo, I sense that the will of the majority of Americans who believe we must do something is having an effect. You can see it in the statements to the recent massacres, the calling this what it is, the vows for action at the ballot box for local and national races.

This is not the America most of us will accept, where children, and shoppers, and people out for a night with friends are slaughtered. There can be no euphemisms for whataboutism in this moment. We need clarity to see the threats for what they are and not let those who peddle in lies or distortions distract us from the truth of their complicity or the need for action.

The Dayton shooter was armed with a mask, bulletproof vest and hearing protection, police chief said

Comment:
The shooter had no prior indication that he had mental illness, other than the tiny unregistered fact that he bought body armor and weapons of mass murder without a clear reason for doing so...

@TheCobbler,
Buying body armor is not a sign of mental illness.

Buying a rifle with a pistol grip is not a sign of mental illness.

Putting a pistol grip on a rifle does not make it a weapon of mass murder.

The left hates freedom so much that sometimes they forget that America remains a free country and people here do not need to have a reason for buying guns.

I have in the past told people to shove the victims up a certain orifice, which more closely captures my views on the matter, but the moderators were quick to remove those posts.

Mocking this phony outrage about the "precious victims" seems to be within bounds, so that's what I do now. It's not harsh enough to fully capture my views, but the moderators seem to allow it.

No worries. I've not spared a single thought or prayer for the victims.

@oralloy,
The cops say the Dayton shooter was taken down within thirty seconds. In that 30 seconds, armed with an assault-style weapon, he killed nine people and wounded 27. Oralloy maintains there was no evidence the shooter was mentally unbalanced. Which means that red-flag laws would have not flagged him. Which clearly means that something far more far reaching is what NEEDS to be done. Ohio's governor, speaking to the crowd mourning in Dayton was shouted down by a massed chant of "DO SOMETHING, DO SOMETHING Oralloy's gunbuddies, the NRA, and the gun lobby are finding their phony civil liberties violation arguments are no longer finding any resonance. Twenty-odd NRA lackeys lost their seats in the 2018 election. Which is why it is absolutely vital to vote the remaining NRA toadies and Donald Trump out of office in 2020. STOP THE CARNAGE, NO MORE GUN VIOLENCE.
