@Baldimo,
So you were hired on some sites to work with Spanish speaking people and others sites you were not....

So it was not the language that was the impediment it was your rotten outlook.

Your contradictions speak volumes about your lack of character.

BTW I did get a job at that very Chinese restaurant. I was a dishwasher and did some light prep, they taught me many things and today I am a much better chef because of that valuable experience. I got to observe highly skilled food service workers and they were very nice to me. If I had stayed long enough I know they would have made me a chef eventually. I still think back on those times with much regard.

I can cook rice perfect every time and I have an enhanced knowledge of spices. I am still amazed by their skill that even now far surpasses my own skills...

@TheCobbler,
The same statement applies to you. Making this statement says you don't know the construction field or how it works. None of my statements were contradictions to the other statements. Care to point them out?

There were spanish speakers at every job site. Since you don't have a clue as to how the field works I'll give you an idea. You have one group who puts in the foundation, another group who frames the house and yet another group who will do the plum and line of the building. You will have a different group who puts the floors in and an entirely different group who then puts the roof on. Another company that will wire the house, another group who puts the plumbing in and yet another group who will put up the dry wall. Do you see how it works? I only ever worked for one company who did everything in-house. When you work in residential housing done by a construction group like I worked for, they hire contractors who do a majority of the the work. The illegal immigrants worked for the contractors and not the prime construction company. In one day, I would be on 2 or 3 different job sites as it was me and another guy who built the stairs for 5 or 6 different housing projects.

I was an awesome carpenter with many many skills and abilities. I didn't speak spanish so I wasn't hired. It's a fucked up day in the US when a citizen can't get a job on a job site because he doesn't speak spanish.

Quote:
This statement alone tells me you don't understand the construction field or what goes on there. Do you think I only worked on one site and for one employer for 4 years?

Those statements tell me that either you have friends that were illegals and you didn't report them or you don't know what was going on on the sites where you weren't hired. I don't think I am being daft. You claimed you weren't hired because you didn't speak Spanish so that meant they were only hiring illegals. I am sure there were some illegals being hired. I am also sure that a lot of illegals that are hired around the country have fake green cards or other fake documents. Your claim that you weren't hired because you didn't speak Spanish speaks volumes about your own prejudices. It says nothing about whether there were illegals on that specific job site. I know a lot of people that speak Spanish and are not here illegally. I also know some people that don't speak Spanish but are here illegally. (Canadians that have overstayed their limit.)

@parados,
I've mentioned this before, so I'll mention it again. I was told I wasn't going to be hired because I didn't speak spanish. I was viewed as a safety hazard because they only spoke spanish.

I didn't have friends that were illegals because none of the illegals spoke english. When I had to work besides those guys and communicate through their boss, the only guy who spoke english, it was pretty evident. You don't become a citizen of the US in your 20's or 30's and not know any english.

You sure are hopping though a lot of hoops to try and prove a point you can't make. Have you ever worked in the construction field? If you haven't, then you don't have the slightest clue as to what really goes on, so why are you trying to make a point you can't make?

Yes!!! That is exactly it! I want the economy, the gun (and others) lobbies, agriculture and the environment "REGULATED by the government"!

If the corporations and speculators cannot play fair we need someone (besides the labor unions) advocating for "we the people" and the environment.

What will you do when the cost of living gets too expensive for even you to afford? Are you still going to kiss the feet of these greedy corporate thieves and sell-out GOP politicians?

It seems the government and our constitution is the only thing we have left to protect our right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

You are deluded in your own hypocrisy, It is okay for a Kentucky woman to deny marriage licenses in her BIG GOVERNMENT way, but let someone deny a person a gun permit and watch all hell break loose!

Your anti big government hyperbole is only a smoke screen for corruption.

And you don't think the greedy money money money BIG BUSINENSS privatization goons of the GOP did not inventively have their eye on that war chest of the Pentagon too?

The GOP purposely loosened regulations on the banks so they could facilitate the theft. Reagan took a trillion dollars from Social Security, George W, tried to destroy the Post Office and he set up all these privatized "military contractors" remember that disaster? You don't think they were not gunning for the Pentagon and its money also?

Fact check: Has Obamacare helped save 50,000 lives? Why yes, it has

In retrospect, had the GOP succeeded in repealing Obama Care we would have 50,000 DEATHS!

@parados,
I'll agree with parados on this.
Also, there is history, re California and Mexico. Essentially, they were here first, relative to the later US, but second, relative to the native indian population, quite a long story. There's a book I almost remember the name of, very informative, will report when the name and author blink at me, as it is a classic.

I worked in construction of a lot of sorts for twenty five years as a landscape architect, sometimes later on with remodeling as well. It was often interesting to be a woman in the field. In the crews I worked with, the contractors employed people with green cards, however real. Crews varied re their ethnic makeup. A lot of the spanish speakers spoke some english; a lot of us spoke some spanish. In the case of my boss before I went out on my own, the boss is japanese american who was raised nextdoor to braceros, who taught him about basic landscaping in California and just naturally, spanish.
I/we were the ones to see that the plans got followed or changed with our approval, thus ok'ing payment. Communication matters, especially with the foremen.

I don't know, but I suspect you got up people's noses.

So you don't want a free market, you want a US communist govt? Our govt was never meant to have this much control of the people or business.

Quote:
If the corporations and speculators cannot play fair we need someone (besides the labor unions) advocating for "we the people" and the environment.

You mean if they don't play to what you consider to be fair? Why do you want a govt that controls every aspect of our lives?

Quote:
What will you do when the cost of living gets too expensive for even you to afford? Are you still going to kiss the feet of these greedy corporate thieves and sell-out GOP politicians?

It will only continue to be out of control as long as the govt continues to force over inflated wages on business's. You guys never stop to think how it effects the consumers and prices of other objects.

Quote:
You are deluded in your own hypocrisy, It is okay for a Kentucky woman to deny marriage licenses in her BIG GOVERNMENT way, but let someone deny a person a gun permit and watch all hell break loose!

You are confusing me with someone else. You seem to want to push positions on my I don't hold. Why do you do that?

Quote:
It seems the government and our constitution is the only thing we have left to protect our right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

What are you talking about. The Constitution is the only thing we have ever had. The Constitution was put in place to limit the govt in what it could do, it was never meant to limit the people. You have the Constitution all twisted.

Quote:
Your anti big government hyperbole is only a smoke screen for corruption.

No my anti-big government is to limit the size of govt. As I noted above, the Constitution was put in place to limit the govt, not the people. You want to limit the people with the power of the govt. Big govt is your religion.

Quote:
The GOP purposely loosened regulations on the banks so they could facilitate the theft.

You mean Clinton loosened the regulation when he signed a bill, making it a law, back in the mid 90's. He was the Pres, he gets the blame.

Quote:
George W, tried to destroy the Post Office

Bush was making sure the Post Office was going to be able to pay out those generous pensions they had promised their workers. If they hadn't made a change to the post office, they would have died and made the taxpayers foot the bill for the pensions. They are now able to support their pensions for the next 75 years. Your dishonesty is blatant.

If you didn't know, Dimo is a portion of my last name. Baldimo is my nick name from highschool. The kids thought I was going bald, so they called me blad dimo. Went to have a shirt made for the state track championships and the shirt thought it was a typo and combined the names. So it stuck, Baldimo. My army buddies, the ones I deployed with just called me Dimo.

Ok, I found the book -

I knew it had to do with the land, but mixed two good books up. I guessed, Design on The Land, first to show up in my brain, but that was a very different book and I knew it was way off kilter re this subject, though I like both books.

Now I found it -
Carey McWilliams, Island on the Land. My copy is long gone. Watch out who you lend books to.. they might keep them.

Fiorina, a failed corporate executive with almost nothing in her resume that makes her qualified to lead or manage anything is now tied for 7? We must really hate the pro's when we do that.

Your logic is faulty. Because some illegals speak only Spanish does not result in anyone that speaks only Spanish must be here illegally.
