@Olivier5,
It also doesn't mean the population centers control the entire govt either, it's a representative style govt. Look on a map and see how the counties voted.

With a single senate seat on the vote, this can hardly be termed as the will of an entire state.

Trump is the clear winner of the titles of "Worst president since WWII" and "Worst president in my lifetime". A majority of the country does not want him to run for president in 2020. Obama is seen far more favorably than Trump by the majority of Americans.
There were people who hated Lincoln too.

Look at how history now views Lincoln, and how history now views the people who hated Lincoln.

Why not? Conservative judges do it all the time.
No they don't. Conservative judges uphold what the Constitution says.

@Olivier5,
Quote:
Wisconsin, in other words, did not have a democratic election for the state assembly. Something resembling an election took place and voters cast their ballots in earnest, but the entire state assembly race was rigged.

This is not a new state of affairs for Wisconsin. As a federal court decision striking down Wisconsin's gerrymandered state assembly maps explained in 2016, "in 2012, the Republican Party received 48.6% of the two-party statewide vote share for Assembly candidates and won 60 of the 99 seats in the Wisconsin Assembly. In 2014, the Republican Party received 52% of the two-party statewide vote share and won 63 assembly seats."

But, of course, that lower court decision ultimately did very little to restore democracy to the state. Last June, in one of retired Justice Anthony Kennedy's final acts on the Supreme Court, the Court punted this case back down to the lower court and left Wisconsin's rigged maps in place. Gill v. Whitford was expected to be a death blow to one of the most aggressive gerrymanders in the nation. It wound up being a crushing defeat for democracy.

This article is silly. There was a free and fair election within every district. And the winners of those elections now represent their districts.

Except it means you're losing your democracy.
Not at all. Each district has the representative that the majority within that district voted for.

For what it's worth, Michigan just passed a sweeping anti-gerrymandering initiative that takes the drawing of district lines out of the hands of the politicians. I voted for it, although I don't think it's a big deal either way.

Our democracy is just fine, it's our Constitution I'm worried about. Leftists like to confuse democracy with mod rule and our Constitution prevents such mob rule. The question you need to ask, is why the leftists hate the US Constitution?

@Baldimo,
Gerrymandering is why this happens. The state agressively redreew its districts for state assembly elections in 2011 in a sort of legal coup d'état, to secure a repub assembly no matter what people vote for.

Three Madison-area Assembly districts, as redrawn by Republicans in 2011’s Act 43.

There was indeed an election but a rigged one.

GOP chairman in Ohio says California wildfires are “punishment” from God
Post and delete: Dave Johnson is facing backlash over an insensitive post he shared on Facebook

NOVEMBER 20, 2018 9:20PM (UTC)

Influential Ohio Republican leader Dave Johnson is facing backlash over an insensitive post he shared on Facebook about the California wildfires this weekend. While the fires have destroyed over 10,000 homes and 1 million acres of land, the Columbiana County Republican Party Chairman believed the destruction to be a punishment from God to a "liberal California."

In a since-deleted Facebook post, the chairman shared an image of a Californian valley in flames with text overlay that read "Hell on Earth, brought to you by the Liberals in California!" Another image detailed a highway in flames with a road sign that reads "Welcome to Hell!" and "God's punishment to Liberal California."

In a statement to the Cleveland Local News, Johnson explained that he meant no harm by the post and only intended the "meme" to reflect how he felt about liberals.

"Look, that’s a meme," Johnson said. "And it’s how I feel about liberals, but did I mean that God is going to punish everyone who lives in California? No. It’s a figure of speech, and I probably shouldn’t have done it. But I did, and it doesn’t change how I feel about what’s happened in California ... If it offended anyone that had a loss of life, then I’m sorry. That was not my intent, and anybody who knows me knows better.”

Not everyone was so forgiving, including his party, the Ohio Republican Party Central Committee, and another influential political figure in the state, Mahoning County Democratic Party Chairman David Betras.

“Johnson owes the victims, their families, and the heroes who fought the fire and participated in rescue efforts an apology,” Betras wrote in a statement on Facebook. "If he won’t resign, those who have the power to remove him from those posts should do so at once. It is also important to note that along with being disturbed, Johnson is a coward. Shortly after people began posting negative comments about his disgusting comments ... Johnson removed the post from his Facebook page. Unfortunately for him, screenshots of his vile post went viral. He won’t be able to escape responsibility for what he said."

According to the Cleveland Local News, Johnson's family and business have received inappropriate messages in the wake of his post's deletion. He says the backlash is a result of the Democrats getting "their butts kicked" in the recent midterm elections and expects the threats to die down soon.

@neptuneblue,
True "Christian" morals, indeed!

However, if California was moved more northwards, at the longitude of ... say, Finland, got Finnish vegetation, God would be pleased (and they're more than 70% Lutherans!)

Reminds me of the Islamist terrorist group Boko Haram. The name means "education is bad".
