@Suttle Tea,
The majority of the food and agriculture "sliver" is to regulate the prices of milk, bread and eggs. (common staples that all Americans benefit from). So they cannot charge 100 dollars for a gallon of milk. A grapefruit in Japan cost 1000 dollars.
Also farm subsidies for when world markets get a glut of food one year the prices go down and government steps in to keeps these farms afloat.
Also research and development and many food safety regulators are paid out of this.
Because of overlap many other unrelated agencies get thrown into this category. Marine biology, air and water testing state and local governments can apply for grant funding including private universities County Extensions, 4H and corporations can receive money out of this tiny yellow sliver.
The food stamp program may only account for 1% of this tiny yellow sliver. I am unsure of the exact breakdown.
But hey, if it makes republicans happy to toss grandmas and babies off food stamps why not let them get their Christian jollies off attacking the poor and elderly? (cynical)
