@Baldimo,
Quote Baldimo:
Quote:
Well I thought the whole point of the modern day leftist movement was to discredit the Founding Fathers. I mean they were white slave owners and racists to boot. Isn't that how we judge US history now, through the glasses of modern day relativism? If that is the case then how can you reasonably use TJ for anything positive?

Conservatives are forever going on about how the country has moved from what the Founding Fathers intended, yet when I use one of the Founding Fathers to disprove your rant complaining that Democratic presidents weren't in the army, you completely go beserk, first whining that I somehow broke the rules by not using a modern day President, then trying to reverse yourself and claim that you were the one maintaining that being a veteran is not a requirement for the office, then going off the deep end completely and saying that modern liberal thought disparages the Founding Fathers.

Baldimo, YOU are the one disparaging the Founding Fathers here, because YOU were complaining that Jefferson was not to be used an example of someone who was qualified for the Presidency. And none of your out-of-control hissy fits are going to be able to change that.

Baldimo: The member who objects to Thomas Jefferson being used as an example of a good President.

The 20 year old who wanted change then are the professors who are re-writing US history. They boil down the Founding Fathers to slave holders and nothing more.

Your evidence of this?

Seems like a step in the right direction to me - removing the whitewash from history.

@snood,
Do you know how long it took our government to acknowledge their wrongdoing of putting us Japanese Americans into concentration camps during WWII? They ignored the US Constitution, and the racial bigots controlled our government.

@bobsal u1553115,
There wasn't a whitewash of that history, we learned that the Founding Fathers had slaves, it wasn't a secret.

History books used to devote a paragraph or two to the Transatlantic Slave trade upon which the entire economy of the United States once depended.

And the way it was mentioned didn't teach anyone about what it truly WAS, so that they could learn the lesson from history why it is called this country's original sin.

More modern history books tell a fuller story, and they mention a few more black people . This is a good thing that means society is making progress. Not sure you are capable of recognizing that.

@Baldimo,
True, and also the fact that no Italians or Germans were treated the same.

Quote:
In addition, there was the threat of public retaliation against the Japanese-American population. We may feel that racial antagonisms fanned the flame of decision, that political pressures were of no little consequence in supporting the military action. In the light of retrospection and true evaluation the evacuation may have been unnecessary, but the fact remains that we, as a nation, were in the most potentially precarious moment of our history—stunned, seriously hurt, unorganized for actual war…

This is a bunch of BS. In this country, those who commit a crime against any group are the criminals. When we were in concentration camp surrounded by barbed wire fence, the guards on the towers had their rifles pointed at us, not to the outside. There was an incident when a guard shot a Japanese American boy because he got too close to the fence. That guard was never charged.

@RABEL222,
Well, to be truthful, it's very difficult to identify a cherry tree. The person who wrote about George may have made a mistake.
