@Baldimo,
Thank you very much. That actually made it crystal clear why the GOP bills were crap, and the Dem bills were better.
The four bills were actually just the Dem and GOP versions of two bills.
To compare (this info taken directly from Baldimo's link):
S. Amdt. 4751- the GOP version - maintained the "gun show loophole" - that is, required no background checks for private dealers.
S.Amdt. 4750- the Dem version - requires federal background checks on every gun sale in the US, period.
.
S.Amdt. 4749 - the GOP version - requires anyone on a terrorist watchlist to wait 72 hours before they can purchase a gun (this supposedly would be enough time for a federal official to convince a judge of probable cause to deny you a gun)
S.Amdt. 4748 -the Dem version - allows the Attorney General to BAN anyone on any FBI terrorist watch list from purchasing a gun. If you were denied you'd have to challenge it in court.
In short, the GOP bills were toothless, feckless odes to the NRA that did nothing and attempted nothing.
The Dem bills were bold steps to make real change and attempt to have a curbing effect on the ability of a crazy or bad person to get a gun.
And Baldimo was asking why one version was supported by Dems, and one wasn't? Duh.
